St Anne’s Church Bewdley
We are really looking forward to the scaffold going up on our new project Monday.
We have been appointed main contractor on the restoration of this beautiful church, right in the middle of Bewdley.
Starting next week is the first 2 phases, which we look forward to sharing.
Works will consist of replacing a lot of the weathered limestone with Hartham Park Bath stone. Then cleaning years of carbon buildup using the latest Ibix trilogy systems.
Photos really don’t do this justice, really can’t wait to see it next to the Entrance arch we are installing soon. Detailing on this new build is stunning.
Red Sandstone
Lovely delivery today of 25 tons of this stunning Red sandstone, ready to be sawn up for 2 local church stone restorations.
Great to be involved in this project, we supplied the replacement Forest of Dean radius flagstones and Bath stone carved coping around the original fountain. have done a great job of restoring this original feature which will be part of a new housing development.
We cut all of our natural stone from rough English Blockstone to create finished stonework.
Hand carved Memorials
Whilst we don’t share to many memorials on here out of respect.
Jess, Lisa & Steve are busy everyday working with families to create a lasting tribute to their loved ones.
We use only british quarried sandstone & limestones for hand carved memorials. Our country has so many beautiful types of stones to choose from.
Due to some lovely projects for 2024 we are looking for a Bankermason to join us in our workshops. Please contact Lewis [email protected] for more info
Great to see this project near completion. We have supplied all the Hartham park stone arches, string course, coping also the tripple light window behind.
Stunning job by
Eton College
This has been a lovely project, we were asked to supply new sandstone steps and a hand carved sign for the college, it’s not often you get to work where most of the prime ministers went to college (whether that’s a good thing or not!).
The stone has been fitted by the contractors on site with the a few tips from Lewis.
We were asked to replace 3 steps that unfortunately the frost had damaged the originals, we templated, cut and fitted new sections of Forest of Dean.
Did you know Forest of Dean was used on nearly all the Georgian and Victorian buildings for steps, as it is such a hard wearing beautiful stone.
Not just us stonemasons that should get the credit for the lovely work we do.
Matt started with us 3 months ago he’s learnt to operate all our saws, also how to cut natural stone from block to finished sawn six sides. This isn’t an easy job and does take a lot of time to perfect.
Matts doing a brilliant job supplying us all on-site with accurate & square sawn stone for us to carve and install.
Days like this are not for the faint hearted freezing temperatures working in wet and sludge shout out to all the sawyers 👌
The new sign for Eton college is nearly complete.
Hand carved letters
Steve is busy everyday hand carving everthing from a house sign to a bespoke memorial lovely to see people still want the authentic traditional letters. The stone is cut from rough block stone in our workshops then over to Steve to work his magic.
Hilton Pukrup Hall
Nice little project for Boniface & Sons.
We cut, hand carved and replaced blown sections of bath stone coping to one of the balcony’s. Once painted it should look like it once was.
Britannia Square
This has been a nice project. We replaced the old concrete steps with new Forest of Dean, which is what would of been there originally.
We restored and refitted the old cast iron riser.
Once we finished the steps, we then clad the old cellar light in Forest of Dean and added a 150mm kerb to finish off the front entrance. All ready for the customers new front garden.
Battenhall Road
It’s not often we get to 2 exactly the same properties to work on one after another.
A few months back we restored the stonework to one of these beautiful Victorian terrace houses, fast forward a month we were working on the one 3 doors up. This time we removed the weathered bath stone, cut, carved and fitted new stones to keep the masonry in good order. Restoring the front pediment and the rear bay window balcony.
Lewis & Steve hand carved these replacements sections of keystones for Bonifice & Sons for some lovely projects on Tewkesbury high street. Once painted they should blend in with the original 150 year old masonry.
Big thanks for fitting our new van in.
A lot of what we work on is stonework that unfortunately has not weathered so well over the years.
This is one of 2 chimney we have rebuilt using new stone on a larger project we are coming to the end of in Cirencester for Speller metcalfe.
Peopleton Church
Failed stone to this window due to incorrect bed orientation, we worked to cut out the old stone and replaced with new sections hand tooled to match the original.
Tewksebury Abbey’s 900th anniversary commemoration plaque.
It’s been lovely to be part of such a great project. Big thank you to Tewkesbury Abbey and Caroe & Partners architects for choosing us to create this bespoke Portland plaque. Hand carved by Steve and installed by Lewis & Darren.
We started by hauling a 4.5 ton raw block of Portland stone from Purbeck.
We then cut the stone in our workshops ready for Steve to set out and carve by hand the inscription.
Designed by Neil Birdsall, with a little nod to him we carved his name into the side, for one day someone to discover. Please go and take a look if you are in Tewkesbury.
Forgate street
After a lorry unfortunately crashed into this beautiful Georgian facade, we were asked to restore the facade back to its former glory, we replaced all the damaged stonework.
While we were restoring the stonework, D&S carried out the repairs to the render and windows followed by all new decoration.
Battenhall Road
We were tasked with replacing a severely failed window head, works were to cut out the old one add a lintel for extra support then we installed a new bath stone window head that matched the original, then rebuilt the terracotta panel above. Also a number of stone replacements to the balcony.
Once the stonework was repaired we cleaned the whole facade, bringing this Victorian terrace back to its former glory.
Royal Grammar School Worcester
Great to see the Rgs facade restored back to its former glory.
we cleaned the whole facade, cut out damaged sections of stone, carved new & fitted the repairs ready for Aaron and his lads to repaint the stonework that hasn’t been painted for at least 50 years.
Amongst all the beautiful buildings & new architectural stonework we have the pleasure of working on.
There’s another side to Steve Allard & Son which we don’t share on here due to the nature of the projects, here’s a little glimpse into that side.
Everyday, Steve, Jess & Lisa work very hard on creating bespoke natural stone memorials. Steve is setting out a hand carved Forest of Dean stone for 24 un named graves in Upton upon Severn found during the flood defence work.
(Ps if you look close there is a spelling mistake, a very easy mistake when hand drawing over 200 letters, this is why once he has set out the inscription it’s checked and checked again. Little like the saying measure twice ! Cut once 😊.)
The lads have spent the last 2 weeks cleaning this lovely Victorian house in Malvern.
Years of carbon build up and other pollution made the original bath-stone look almost black. It’s lovely to see the stonework back to original colour.

Blast from the past !
Dad in the Worcester news, working on the new stone parapet of All saints church Worcester.
Pierced Balustrade
We have been working on and off on this property with pierced balustrading in Shrewsbury. The works involved removing the old stonework so that (Wct roofing) could renew all the leadwork, which they have done a stunning job of.
Then we rebuilt the original stonework replacing the damaged sections, all it needs now is to weather back down so that it will look like we haven’t touched it.
