This year we turn 7 years old. Weโve grown so much as a service and owe this achievement to so many people. We want to say a special thank you to the individuals and local companies that have donated their funds and time, all our service users who have supported us and choose us as their day centre, our incredible manager Tracey Hemming who goes above and beyond to ensure Freedoms success and doesnโt pay herself a penny for doing so, the families of service users who have supported us since day one, our fantastic team of staff members who truly commit and take pride in the service they deliver, Darren and his team for the incredible work theyโve done on our building and south Littleton village for making us all feel so welcome and showing their continued support. To celebrate weโre doing our birthday event. Please come along and celebrate with us.

Increase in Pertussis (whooping cough) cases
Cases in whooping cough are continuing to rise therefore there is the potential for outbreaks in nurseries, schools and childcare settings.
Whooping cough, also known as pertussis, is a respiratory disease which is spread by coughing and sneezing. The symptoms often start like a cold, progressing to outbursts of coughing which can sometimes cause vomiting or choking. The cough sometimes has a characteristic โwhoopโ sound and can last for up to 3 months or more in some people.
Whooping cough is caused by the Bordetella pertussis bacteria and can cause serious and life-threatening complications such as pneumonia, difficulty in breathing and seizures. Whooping Cough can affect people at all ages, however, severe complications and deaths occur mostly in infants under 6 months of age.
Whooping cough is a notifiable disease in England and Wales. This means health professionals must inform local health protection teams of suspected cases. UK Health Security Agency collects data on notifiable diseases. This data helps healthcare professionals track outbreaks and trends in disease occurrence over time.
Immunisation is the most effective way to protect against whooping cough. It is vital that:
โข Pregnant women get vaccinated to protect their babies from birth. Women can be vaccinated against whooping cough at any time in pregnancy from 16 weeks gestation until when they give birth. However, ideally pregnant women should receive the vaccine between 20-32 weeks gestation. This ensures the mother has enough time to respond to the vaccine and for antibodies to be transferred to the baby across the placenta. If the vaccine is given after the 18-20-week congenital anomaly scan this means that, even if a baby is born prematurely, they are likely to have some protection.
โข Infants receive their vaccines at 8, 12 and 16 weeks of age or as soon as possible after that if their vaccines are delayed. This will offer them protection against Pertussis until their booster at age 3.
