It will be "International Lefthanders Day" on Sunday 13th August. As it is also the start of the "Worcester Festival" on Saturday 12th August, we thought we would join the two together! 👍😀

Also this year sees the Inaugural International Left-Hander’s Conference 2023, taking place in both South Africa and Nigeria! The Hybrid Conference starts on Monday 7th August and finishes on Friday 11th August.

We love sharing interesting facts with our followers about the small activities you can get your child involved with, to support their development and handwriting.

Encouraging your child to get involved in sports that use a racket, such as tennis and badminton, is a great way to help build shoulder girth, and strong hand and wrist muscles needed to hold a pencil correctly and write without pain.

So, why not get your child to pick up a bat or racket this weekend?

Having worked with so many schools, teachers and trainee teachers over the years, we have found that unfortunately many teachers simply do not possess the knowledge or skills to provide correct and effective support, due to the fact that handwriting is not taught in the Initial Teacher Training (ITT).

This is inflicting further damage on children in nursery and EYFS when it comes to learning to write.

We need to equip our teachers with the correct knowledge, methods, and tools to teach children to write correctly and move away from the lead-in-stroke and cursive. It is paramount that this is introduced in the ITT.

If you are a trainee teacher or NQT, read our recent article focusing on the fundamentals of teaching children correctly and how we do this to provide children with the key life skill of legible handwriting.

We understand how difficult it can be to encourage students to practise their handwriting skills, but with the right resources you should be able to maintain their attention and keep it fun, so it doesn’t feel like it’s learning; our workbooks do just this.

We have worked hard to embed the science of handwriting into each workbook, so all your school and teachers have to do is choose a book based on a child’s ability and the workbook will do the rest, guiding them through each stage to build strong foundations and their writing confidence.

We hope you have settled back into this new normality and that your children are adjusting back to their educational routines .
We know it will be challenging for many children in schools, with new teachers and possibly new schools together with the challenges of missed schooling in lockdown and their increased learning needs.
We have been supporting many parents during this period and are still here to support if you need us . Alas we cannot offer our informal "drop ins" just yet as we have no suitable venue yet. But Victoria has met parents by appointment on a 1:1 basis, so do contact us if that is something you feel would help.
