Match report Worksop V Dronfield Saturday 3 / 2 / 24 Last time Worksop travelled to Dronfield earlier this season They were under pressure to field a first 15 and were at the time lucky to have recruited a trio of Fijian players, Playing for Worksop for the first time. Unfortunately, as the game went on Worksop were defeated significantly. Saturday saw the start of England’s campaign for the six nations against Italy. The Stubbing meadow ground wasn’t expecting too many spectators on the touch line for this encounter as perhaps in the club house. To our surprise there was not only a good size crowed for the home team but also a significant amount had travelled to support Dronfield, which the players on both sides appreciated. Worksop had a less than normal selection side with the replacements for our usual back row player and a front row player absent for this game, both very strong positions to fulfil. The conditions on the meadow were good, the ground was soft to firm and the weather was a diagonal wind from left to right from the lane, good for kicking towards the river. Your referee for the day was 78 year old, Alan Hawkes NLD from Skegness Worksop kicked off with Captain Reece Waddell placing a high ball for the forwards to place pressure on the opposition between the 10m and 22m area. Worksop players moved well in formation, tackling well they forced Dronfield to make mistakes and forced a turn over which enabled a quick delivery into the centres where Will Oakley took on the away team defence to crash over scoring in the left hand corner. The kick was taken by the Worksop captain only to narrowly miss just outside the far post. Worksop from the kick off were taken back to their 22m by a missed opportunity and the ball was knocked on to a scrum.
