A good front nine can come to an abrupt end on the long and narrow 9th hole.

As ever, a good tee shot puts players in position to at least be in range to make a 4 on one of the most challenging greens on the course which is protected by a large tree on the right side and a deep bunker on the left.

We had a fantastic weekend of golf in our club championships with the golf course in fantastic condition.

It was even better for Jake Scott who claimed both the scratch and handicap titles with knocks of 71 and 76! Many congratulations Jake!

The start of a new week at WGC, as we move through into July and battle the changing weather, the staff continue to go above and beyond to provide the best experience possible for all golfers.

The longest day of the year.

Summer solstice at Worksop Golf Club did not disappoint; a stunning evening for anyone on the course.

The shortest and, on paper, easiest par 3 at Worksop is #11.

An elevated tee and a narrow green protected by bunkers and out of bounds at the back demands a good club selection and an accurate shot.

Despite the stroke index, taking a 3 away from this hole is an achievement, and a mid round relief.

Another win in the bank for the lads this time up the road completing the double in our local derby on this fine evening.

The second’s steep sideways slopes can present a tricky second shot into the shallow green.

A well hit drive will take full advantage of the downslope and let the ball gather at the bottom of the valley with a fairly flat lie and a wedge into the green.

Tee shots short or left can be helped out of trouble by the slope, but will provide a testing second shot in; with the ball below the feet and headed for the two green-side bunkers to the right.

Tee shots to the right, as well as risking finding a tough lie in the trees (or on the 4th tee!) could land the ball above feet for the second shot.

It is worth a glance over your shoulder as you walk down the hill from the 4th tee to the fairway, to look through the gap in the trees and check where the flag on 5 is placed.

Though only a short par 4 at 270y as the crow flies to the middle of the green from the yellows, the stroke index of 12 goes to show that this isn’t a hole to be underestimated.

3 tiers of elevated green with bunkers surrounding, a well placed tee shot will beat the tree lined corner and allow a straight shot at the green.

Doing your research and knowing which tier of green to hit can save a card ruiner early in your round.
