💦 How do we teach your little one the backstroke? 🏊♂️
We use fun activities in our lessons to teach your child key swimming strokes throughout our programme. From introducing foundational movements to your baby in Team Pearl, through skills like Tiger Arms, you'll watch as your little one progresses and gains confidence before they're swimming independently for short distances in Team Finn.
🎨 One game we use to teach your child the backstroke is painting the ceiling! Check out the video to see some future Swimvincibles practising this essential stroke! 🖌️

💦 Are you ready? Go! 🥽
How awesome is this underwater swim?! Going underwater is a natural part of swimming and it plays a key role in teaching water safety in our lessons. From the get-go, we use the cue "Name, Are you ready? Go" to build up the association with this phrase and going underwater, so that your little one is always in control! We never swim your baby unless we’re absolutely sure that they are happy to go underwater. If they’re hiccuping, sleeping, crying or seem generally resistant, they’ll stay on the surface 👶

All our water babies (little and big!) have the chance to take part in an underwater photoshoot during their swimming journey with us. Our underwater photoshoots run just like a normal lesson, with a teacher taking you through your regular warm up and practising skills with you in the pool as you're called over one-by-one for your little ones time to shine in front of the camera. 📸

Tonia represented Great Britain in the 10m diving three times at Olympic level and won a silver medal in the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Swimming to Success with Water Babies 🥇
💦 Starting swimming lessons as early as possible is vital in building water confidence and teaching water safety skills that could one day save a life, but did you know attending Water Babies lessons could also be setting your little one up to continue their swimming journey?
Former water baby Naeve knows all about this. Having attended lessons with us from 8 weeks old all the way back in 2004, Naeve has gone on to achieve medals in swimming at both a regional and national level. She even recently took part in the Irish Olympic trials! 😲

💦 Why do we blow bubbles in our lessons?
Throughout our progressive programme, we teach your little one to blow bubbles rhythmically in the water, building up their confidence to submerge their face fully turning their head to each side to breathe in. This is the aquatic breathing technique, they'll use in swimming strokes like front crawl as they graduate from us as Swimvincibles!

💦 3,2,1...TORPEDO! 🚀
For our older water babies in Team Sculli and Team Finn, we teach streamlining, a core aquatic skill, through fun activities like blasting off from the wall just like a torpedo.
In our lessons, we use noodles to help little ones practise swimming on their backs as they help them to keep their belly up. As they progress through our Oceans of Imagination world, gaining confidence and refining their skills, they soon discover they no longer need the noodle and can do it all by themselves!

Is that the sun?! 🌞 It's finally starting to heat up but are you and your little one ready for the warmer weather? 🔥
The summer months bring lots of fun in the swimming pool and at the beach, so we thought we would give you a few tips so that you can have an amazing time but also stay safe...
💦 Rash vests are brilliant for all ages to protect their delicate skin against the sun, helping them to stay cool while they play.
💦 Popular beaches will often have flags to mark a specific area of the sea that is safe to swim in. Rip currents are extremely dangerous and hard to see with the untrained eye so pay close attention to these markers.
💦 Drink water! It’s an obvious one, we know. But it’s so important to stay hydrated especially on scorching days like we’ve seen recently in this heatwave.
💦 The water in hose pipes can become very warm in direct sunlight so if you’re preparing for a water fight, check the temperature of the water first before you open fire.

Echo is our Head of Scientific Research, and will teach toddlers around 2 to 3 years of age all the physical, emotional and cognitive benefits swimming can bring. He'll be on hand to educate and excite swimmers in his team to continue achieving their lesson outcomes and working towards their Level 1 Swim England award.

💦 How do we teach your little one front crawl? 🏊♂️
When you join us in team Pearl, we'll teach you to teach your baby the fundamental movements for front crawl through fun activities like Chase that Fishy and Tiger Arms which encourage them to reach out their arms and grab a toy.
As your child progresses through each team, they'll gain more and more confidence and independence as they refine their front crawl arms with our Chief Swim Co-Ordinator Finn until they are swimming completely independently over short distances!

🦺 This Drowning Prevention Week, we share Ellia and David's story of water safety in action...
Recently 5 year old Ellia and her dad, David, were enjoying a bike ride along the canal in Cheshire. Dad was safely cycling between his daughter and the canal, before dropping back slightly as she gained both independence and confidence. Ellia continued to ride perfectly along the path with Dad keeping a keen eye from just behind, when she suddenly looked back, causing her to veer right and sending her and her bike straight into the canal.
David immediately prepared himself to dive in after his daughter but Ellia had already kicked to the surface and swum back to the side, holding on for safety as she'd learnt in her Water Babies lessons. Dad pulled Ellia from the water and began to calm her down; she had reacted incredibly but the situation was still very frightening for her.
"I can't speak highly enough of how Ellia reacted that day, swimming to safety. I would very much recommend all children learn to swim at the earliest opportunity...it saved Ellia's life." - Ellia's dad, David.

🔦 Shine a light on water safety this Drowning Prevention Week with Saffi 🦺
Saffi is our Water Safety Officer and is always shining a light on the importance of being safe in and around water at Lighthouse Lagoon. With her bustling energy, little ones will join Saffi in their lessons this week to progress their swimming skills and learn new strokes.
As you progress through our Oceans of Imagination world, Saffi will be there to teach your little Swimvincible key safety skills such as being able to hold onto the side of the pool, travel to a place of safety and call out for help.

Drowning is preventable. Even one drowning is one too many. 🦺
Your child’s safety is at the heart of everything we do at Water Babies. As a key part of our swimming programme, we teach water safety skills which could one day help save a life.
In the last week, our strategic partner, , has shared data which reveals accidental drowning deaths amongst children have doubled since 2019-20. According to the charity, the number of child drowning deaths in England has significantly increased from 20 in 2019-20, to 41 in 2022-23. Tragically, a total of 125 children have accidentally lost their lives to drowning in the last four years.
This Drowning Prevention Week, we’ll be raising awareness on the importance of water safety, learning to swim and building water confidence from an early age. We'll be providing advice on how to stay safe outside of swimming lessons including at home, at the beach or in a paddling pool so you can confidently enjoy the water with your little one this summer.
