Have you ever wondered about why we're called The Miller of “Mansfield”?

As it turns out the Miller has a rich history that is deeply intertwined with English folklore and the architectural heritage of the region. The pub is named after the medieval ballad "The King and the Miller of Mansfield," which narrates the story of a miller who unknowingly hosts King Henry II, thinking him a mere traveller.

The miller shares poached deer from Sherwood Forest with the king, and upon discovering the traveller's true identity, he is knighted for his hospitality rather than punished for the theft. This tale encapsulates the themes of hospitality and reward for good deeds, which are central to the ethos of the pub.

Architecturally, The Miller of Mansfield is an 18th-century Grade II listed coaching inn, reflecting its historical significance and preservation. The building's status as a listed property underlines its architectural and historical importance, ensuring its protection and the maintenance of its character.
