Gwenfro Valley Adventure Playground
Free to use, staffed, open access playground for 5 to 16 year olds (under 5s accompanied by an adult)
Thank you everyone who came out to support our Christmas grotto. We are very grateful to our Parent Steering Group who have raised money over the year to support our events and their efforts paid for all the gifts for the grotto.
From everyone at Gwenfro Valley have a Merry Christmas and we look forward to seeing you all in 2024!
The grotto is all ready for our special visitor today. We are open 4pm to 6pm
We have a very special guest coming to the playground tomorrow. Look out for more details about our Christmas grotto from 4pm to 6pm.
Thank you everyone who came out to see Father Christmas this evening. Very grateful to our staff and volunteers who helped put everything together to make it happen. Big thanks to Abbey Premier Stores for the cups of teas to keep everyone going. We will start sharing the photos taken tomorrow.
Santa is heading to Anthony Eden Drive next
Were on are way. Santa will see you soon
Don't forget we are out helping Father Christmas visit the area tonight so the playground is CLOSED this evening. We will post up the times the float is moving around to give you a chance to go to the meeting points.
Look out! There is going to be an important visitor coming around tomorrow. Make sure you give Father Christmas a wave!!
We're very excited the float is back this year. We will be making a few stops as it travels around. Please note this year children will not be getting on board to sit with Father Christmas. Instead we are asking people to gather at the stops on the map and Father Christmas will come to say hello to everyone there.
We will post up times when we start out to give you an idea of times for the stops.
It's started! Over the weekend we were able to begin work on replacing the pulley frame. It has taken a lot of work to get this far and still much to do. A big thank you to AT Planthire for kindly helping us out with a digger for the weekend, it made all the difference to get this much work done.
We are hugely grateful to Performance Civils Limited for their incredible donation of gravel and cement towards the work to replace the pulley. It means we can go ahead with our plans to start putting in the new posts this weekend - keep your fingers crossed for good weather!
Can you help! We will be starting work to replace our pully (zipwire) over the next few weeks. The children at the playground have been waiting a long time to have it back in use. To finish the work we need gravel or crush and run to mix in the concrete. Do you have any left over from a job or know a company that would donate some?? We need around 2 tonnes. Also bags of postcrete or concrete would be a massive help. Get in touch if you know where we can get these.
Fire fun! Our bonfire night activities proved a hit with everyone at the playground last night. There were hot dogs, chocolate apples, marshmallows and sparklers before the main event of the fire sculptures in the swing pit. A big thank you to all the parents who volunteered their time to help out put the session together and last night. We received funding as part of Operation Bang from our local PCSO to make this all happen.
We are very grateful to our local PCSO Hilary who has arranged for us to receive £250 for our events as part of Operation Bang from PACT funding. It has meant we have been able to put on more activities and food for the children this week for Halloween and Bonfire night.
A busy day on the playground for Halloween. Thank you to everyone who came and supported our spooky afternoon. We are very grateful to all the parents and carers who volunteered their time to help out and make it a success.
We've been getting ready for our Halloween party. Come and join us tomorrow 2pm to 4pm for hot dogs, activities and a spooky time...
It's going to be a busy week on the playground. Who is joining us for our Halloween party on Tuesday and Bonfire activities on Friday??
We are CLOSED today. Due to the flooding along the River Gwenfro and the heavy rain forecast for the rest of the day we felt it would be safer to close the playground today.
We will be open again on Sunday 12pm to 2pm.
Thank you very much to Green Rock Manufacturing Group who have kindly donated pallets to the playground. They will get used in all manner of ways by the children and Albie has already made a start! Grateful to Gemma and Wayne for their help with collecting them.
It's started! The new tree house is starting to appear on the playground with the posts going in the ground on Tuesday. Lots of questions and children taking an interest in what was going on. With this many helpers we'll have it all finished soon!
As you may be aware Kion Williams has been involved in a serious accident whilst on holiday. The community has been fund raising to support the family and we wanted to let you know the playground will be collecting money to pay into the GoFund Me page. If you wish to drop money off at the playground please just let a member of staff know. We wish the family all the best for a speedy recovery.
Please keep a look out for a blue and black scooter. Sadly one has gone missing from the session tonight.
We always recommend leaving bikes and scooters up by the office.

Our playworkers were out and about yesterday afternoon. They stopped to off to have a crafty time in the sunshine. Lots of creative items were being made whilst relaxing in the heat.
Playworkers now back at Gwenfro valley open 2 till 4. Come down and enjoy the sunshine.
Morning everyone. Playworkers will be out and about round bala road and surrounding area 12 till 2 today. See you there 😊
It was time to say more farewells this week. With Kasey leaving us on Thursday and Sam on Sunday. It goes without saying Kasey will be missed so much as she has grown up on the playground and is a big part of Gwenfro Valley.
Sam has been working on wider projects over the last year and also does a lot of work supporting the playground. She has been working sessions over the past few years. We wish them both the best for the future.
But before being nice to them we had to give them a traditional send off and show them why they should not leave us!
It was our end of summer party number 16 last Sunday. Time to celebrate another summer of play on the playground and another year of Gwenfro Valley. A huge thanks to all the parents who volunteered to help organise, collect food and make the party happen on the day.

Playworkers and young people had a lovely session yesterday in Pentre Gwyn and surrounding area. They enjoyed fruit for a snack, chalking, making crowns, bracelets, bubbles, football and a walk befor joining is Gwenfro Valley 😊
We're looking forward to playing at the playground today. We are restricted to 20 children per session and turning people away at the gate is not what we want to be doing so please help us to keep it fair – from today we will be prioritising those who haven’t yet had a chance to play. If you have already been you can still come down if you want to but please be prepared to let those who haven’t yet been take priority. Thanks for your understanding 😊
Great news - from tomorrow (Tues 18th) if you want to come and play you will no longer need to book onto sessions. We have a maximum of 20 spaces each day and you can just turn up – 1st come 1st in. If you’re 11 or under you can come Sundays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
We are having separate sessions for anyone 12 and over and there are 8 spaces per session (because the Welsh Government guidance is different for over 11s). These will be Mondays and Fridays. All sessions are 2pm-4pm.
Everyone will need to fill in an up to date registration form.
Please read this guidance before you come.
