☹️As you may be aware, Kirklees Council is currently undertaking a consultation exercise regarding future public leisure centre provision across the borough. The Council is facing a very challenging financial position and is significantly reducing the 2024/25 funding available to support KAL, as the local, not for profit charitable leisure trust currently responsible for managing the Council's leisure centres.

👊🏻KAL is the largest provider of physical activity opportunities in Kirklees, supporting thousands of local people every week to improve their health & wellbeing. KAL managed sites welcomed over 2.5m customer visits in 2022/23, with almost 69,000 registered customers and some 7,267 young people enjoying swimming lessons every week, as well as 135 local schools making use of KAL managed sites for their school swimming provision. In addition, KAL are a major employer of local young people with 52% of the charity's workforce under 25 and over 82% of KAL's staff living in Kirklees.

✍️Please complete the consultation, which is available online

https://www.kirklees.gov.uk/beta/food-exercise-and-sport/leisure-centre-review-consultation.aspx

If you feel strongly about the Council's proposed changes then please feel free to write a letter of support to KAL and they will ensure that this is provided to the Council.

Please Share far and wide 🙏

The Yorkshire Ability Triathlon is an event being held at Leeds Beckett University on 21st May for Children aged 7 – 17 years with Physical and Learning Difficulties.🙌

This is the first of its kind in Yorkshire, although our colleagues in the North-East have held something similar for the last eight years, which can be viewed on the following link.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKjHO3Ccqmk

Whilst the event will contain all the events of a traditional triathlon, for those that may not be able to participate in either a swim, bike or run we will also have an activities area in order that they complete ‘three sports’.

This is a truly inclusive day and will be as much fun for the parents and carers as it will be for the participants and we would love for you to be able to promote this amongst your network. Whilst the entry link is in the attached flyer,  also attach it here https://www.gotri.org/events/go-tri-yorkshire-ability-triathlon_14423
