Today has been an emotional one for Pruce Newman where we gathered at the Bird in Hand, Wreningham, to reminisce and say goodbye, good wishes to our Business Development Director, Graham Newman, on his retirement from Pruce Newman, after an impressive 38 years of service with the business.

It's hard to believe that Graham joined Pruce Newman in 1984, the same year Bob Geldof and Band Aid released ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas’.
Graham joined the southern branch area, which at the time was managed by his father, Brian Newman. He became branch manager in 1992 and joined the Board of Directors in 1994 before taking the reins of MD in January 2013. In 2021 Graham passed the MD baton to Alan whilst still providing his continued support and guidance throughout and allowing Graham to head up sales, estimating and marketing as Business Development Director.

Graham has always been driven to do the right thing with honesty and integrity and has always had the ability to view situations from all perspectives. Graham has also been instrumental in staff development over the years

Graham’s colleagues will certainly miss his good humour, natural enthusiasm, and all the support he has given over the years, and we wish him and his wife, Amanda all the very best for a long, healthy and happy time enjoying extended holidays, driving sports cars, fixing the old Triumph Norton and reducing that golf handicap to name just a few.

Last night we were crowned Winners for the annual go karting event at Ellough Race Circuit. The event took place to raise money for Norfolk and Waveney Mind and a fantastic £2940 was raised on the night.
Well done Team Pruce, the aches and pains this morning are worth it

50 (well 52) years of “Doing the Right Thing”

On Saturday we got to finally celebrate our 50th year anniversary (2 years later than planned due to Covid).

Employees past and present, with their families, came together at Wymondham Rugby Club to celebrate, reminisce, and have a good catch up, whilst enjoying a fabulous BBQ, superb cake and cool drinks on a lovely sunny afternoon.

It was great to see so many of the Pruce Newman team from the whole spectrum of the last 52 years, seeing all the photos from earlier days brought back very fond memories, some had fewer grey hairs or in some cases just hair back then. 🤭

A big thank you to all our clients who have trusted us to deliver for them, and who we’ve been proud to serve for the past 50 years, thanks also to all the suppliers who’ve supported us along the way and most of all, a very big thank you to all the staff that we’ve had the pleasure and honour to work with over the years, without you the business would not be in the strength that it is now and ready to face the next 50 years.

It’s been a busy week at Pruce Newman.
2 of our guys at PPG were asked to make a couple of pump trolleys. They had no drawings to work from and have created some excellent work. Big shout out to Jason and Gavin
The fabrication workshop have equally been busy with a Vapour Replacement for one of our valued client’s.
Keen to model their handy work are AJ and Alex, however all of our employees at Pruce Newman are working extremely hard and we are grateful to have such a great team.

There is no better way to get into a true team spirit than enjoying a night out with your work colleagues…

9 staff from our Head Office took themselves to the magical worlds of “Alice in Puzzle land” & “A Darlek Awakens” from Escape Hunt in Norwich.
And we are pleased to announce that both teams made it out of their elected rooms within the hour time limit… Bravo 👏

Team “Alice” followed the white rabbit to escape in 1 hour 49 mins & Team “Who” escaped before being “Exterminated” in 1 hour 58 mins….
Just in time for all involved to be in the Winners Photograph at the end….

What’s your favourite team building / works night out?

Our apprentices have been busy recently. Dwayne Powley has recently completed a spell at Lotus Fabrications where he proved that there is a lot more to him than welding pipes.
He has also made a big impression while completing his apprenticeship and was awarded a highly commended award by Apprenticeships Norfolk.
Dwayne is already a coded welder for the TIG Welding of carbon and stainless steel (including Sch10) butts and fillet welds and, as an outcome of more intensive training with Alex Blake this year, at our Wymondham facility, he has now extended his coding portfolio to include MMA/FCAW butt welds and FCAW fillet welds.

Our other apprentices have been busy this year too. Owen Cranston, Jake Ross and Rory Mann have all received intensive TIG welding training from Alex Blake and Keith Dixon at our Wymondham facility witnessed by our third-party surveyor from LRQA (previously part of Lloyd’s Register), resulting in our pool of welders expanding to include:

Owen, TIG Welding of carbon and stainless steel (including Sch10)
Jake, TIG Welding of carbon and stainless steel
Rory, TIG Welding of carbon and stainless steel (he already has Sch10) and MMA/FCAW of carbon steel

We want to celebrate their fantastic achievements; they are demonstrating that they are able to carry on the craft traditions of Pruce Newman into the future. In fact, these four young men delivered what must be our most successful set of welding qualification results; between them producing 9 butt weld tests and 1 fillet weld test, all of which passed.
It is also encouraging to know that we have inspiring people like Alex, who are passionate about coaching and trainer others, so that we multiple specialist trainers who can pass on skills and knowledge.

Well done to the combined efforts of Briar Chemicals and Pruce Newman for hosting a Comic Relief Bake Off on Friday 18th March 2022. With our very own Paul Hollywood aka Phil Hoy as Head Judge, the golden handshake was given to a chocolate sponge cake with jam and buttercream centre. They raised a fantastic amount of £292.48. Thank you everyone 👏
