Happy Bonfire Night!
Who is holding this sparkler I wonder? Could it be a descendant of Guy Fawkes who lives in Wymondham town centre near the Cross? It is! A fun Bonfire Night fact for you!
Have fun out there and stay safe!
That's it! We've officially closed for the season until March other than our Christmas Past event on the 7th December! We are so grateful to all of our visitors who came this year and helped make it such a memorable one, but this is for our volunteers.
We are lucky to have the most wonderful team of volunteers at Wymondham Heritage Museum, who contribute their time in a multitude of different ways, entirely out of the goodness of their heart. From those who volunteer monthly to sit and man front desk or run the tearoom, to those who sit on our committee and manage the running of the museum- we are so grateful! Whilst some organise events, put together displays and exhibitions, or manage children's activities at the museum, others tend our garden, bake all of our homemade cakes for the tearoom, work in building maintenance, deal with our art and our collections, run our IT or publicity, manage our social media, lead tours, lead our volunteers, or manage the running of the museum day to day. We are so grateful to you all. The museum literally wouldn't be able to operate without you!
I'd like to say an extra special thank you to Nancy for being the most amazing Chair of the museum for the last two seasons. You have done the most fantastic job and we're so grateful. An enormous thankyou for your tireless work all year in collections too.
Another special thank you to Helen, our amazing Tearoom Manager, Sarah our displays manager, Jaybee who runs our tours, Trevor who runs all of our IT, Neil who is our publicity manager, DIY David our maintenance manager, Janis who takes care of our gardens, Debbie, Alison and Val who make our amazing cakes, Chris W who manages all of our Stewards with such care, Chris Y who gives up every single weekend to run the tearoom, Amanda who runs our shop and art displays, Laura who runs our social media and is on our display and event team, Simon our vice chair, and Sam who is on our event team.
And to all of our volunteers, thank you so much.
Until next year!
Today is our final day of opening (with the exception of our special Christmasses of the Past event on Saturday 7 December, 12pm to 6pm with Father Christmas visiting too 🎅🎅) until next March.
So if you need something to do this Sunday afternoon, why not visit us ? Our tearoom is open too with lovely homemade scones and cakes 🍰and warm drinks ☕️ . We are open from 1pm to 4pm .
Free entry for children too .
Looking forward to seeing you.

Situated in the Bridewell, which has served as a prison, police station and courthouse, it is full of history that can be enjoyed by all the family. Explore Wymondham’s colourful history and learn about its people from Prehistoric times, the Iron Age, the Romans and Saxons to Wymondham’s beautiful medieval Abbey. Learn about the Bridewell from its beginning in 1785 as a 'model prison' and see what life would have been like for a prisoner in the recreated dungeon. Follow the story of Robert Kett, leader of Tudor England's most inspiring rebellion. Find out about Wymondham's Great Fire of 1615 and how a new Market Cross was built. Learn about farming and shopping before mechanisation and supermarkets and visit a recreated Wymondham 1930s grocery and general store.
