This may seem a funny thing to post in July, but even at this time of year we have people buying our hats at the craft fairs we attend. If you would like to own a unique, hand-knitted hat of our own design you can now purchase online on our website (link in comments and bio).
Beautiful โค๏ธ
This is detail from one of our hand-knitted fairisle hats, knitted in hand-dyed yarn and in a unique design (largely because we can't remember what we knitted last time!).
The picture is mainly to grab your attention: I have just discovered, a bit late, that the Etsy shop is broken and won't allow me to list things, which explains why it has been so quiet for the past few months. If you were trying to purchase fibre, yarn or products from us and found you couldn't, I apologise.
It has spurred me on to make more use of the website, so over the next week or two I will be listing everything on the Somerset Wool Shed website (link in bio). I will then make some sort of announcement when everything is there, probably with some sort of offer or sale.
Thank you for bearing with us, and sorry again to all those people I have been telling that we sell online, when apparently we haven't been ๐
Doodle, doodle... Doddle.... ๐

So very true, stop worrying, just create!
We never seem to be satisfied with our art do we? We always seem to prefer the way someone else has painted something, or wish we could learn faster than our brains (or hands) can master the medium!
Being creative is a life long journey of fun and discovery, it is not a destination or resting place. Constant negative comparison can destroy creative enthusiasm. We all create differently, and we all learn at different speeds.
You are never to old to learn something new, and never feel ashamed that you donโt know a lot or are a โbeginnerโ. It also doesnโt matter how or why you decided to create - all reasons are valid, and all have a purpose.
Remember that British landscape painter John Constable sold few of his paintings in his lifetime, and he was 53 before he was elected into the Royal Academy, yet Turner was just 27 when he became a RA member. They are both celebrated worldwide.
Donโt be hard on yourself, and just enjoy creating art however and whenever you do it!
Beautiful Manx wool, making a small shawl or wrap. It's lovely and warm!

Art
I am a British Artist living in Somerset. I grew up in the Scottish Borders and thatโs, I think, where I got my love of nature. I studied at Falmouth School of Art after moving South in my early 20โs. I used gouache predominantly in the early years, painting detailed studies of birds, now I love painting animals and birds mostly in watercolour, but enjoy using other mediums too.
I also create jewellery with wire and gemstones and I love freeform (without the use of a pattern) crochet too, creating mostly, hats, mittens, snoods and shawls.
I hope you enjoy browsing through my work.
