Another busy day on the mole rounds, so busy that Alf was eyeing up my cup of tea on our break 🤣

We’ve been busy working in gardens and fields these last few weeks but seeing great improvements

Not only are they unslightly but mole hills in gardens can cause lots of problems;
👩‍🌾Tunnelling through soil can disturb seedlings and roots of other small plants
🪴 Shallow tunnels lift soil and dry out plant
🧑‍🌾Their tunnels can cause pooling of water in land making growth of some plants harder
🐭Their tunnels make easy access for other pests such as rats and mice
🏡 Weakens the structure of your land & if left they can cause damage to building foundations

Chief mole catcher Alf has been busy this morning checking the traps with us. He certainly likes to think he’s in charge on the rounds!!

Rainy day on the moles today meant a very mucky puppy and plenty of moles caught
The rain didn’t stop Alf from checking those traps, he likes to be out supervising and making sure we’re doing a good job

We’re well and truly into the mole season now with lots of activity keeping us busy.
Lots of new traps being set today to catch those pesky moles.

We do lots of work with local farms in the York area, working on their land to eliminate moles and minimise damage to land, but why is this so important?
Moles cause lots of problems on farm land including;

👨‍🌾Silage pollution by soil particles being mixed into the grass making it unpalatable to livestock
👨‍🌾Weed invasions in land which can cause damage to plants and machinery.
👨‍🌾Yield loss due to damaged roots from tunnelling moles.
👨‍🌾Collapsing tunnels can cause injury to livestock

We’ve had a busy few days on the moles recently. Now that the weather is getting milder and the grass is growing the moles are way more active.
