Next Thursday (26th) we’re wishing a fond farewell to the current art adorning the bakery walls and welcoming new incumbent Robin GJ. He’s presenting an amazing new body of work. Come and hang out on the opening night (26th) and check out our new walls. 6-9pm.
Robin’s work is a visual diary of his raw experiences exploring the landscape and the power of the elements he encounters. His work also takes inspiration from the indefatigable way in which theelements have shaped the landscape over millennia and how the landscape is at the mercy of the wind, rain and sea.
Robin’s artistic practice can be likened to the 18th century Romantic movement, led by artists such as J.M.W.Turner and John Martin. The Romanticism artists advocated for the appreciation of nature and argued that passion and intuition were crucial, and an artist’s emotions should dictate their artistic approach. They also believed that the natural beauty of the landscape captured on canvas is more than merely an affair of form, but rather something that should evoke a strong emotional response, something that Robin’s work achieves on many levels – don’t forget to bring your umbrella!
In this new body of work, created especially for the RISE gallery, Robin has adapted his approach to explore a very different side of his artistic style.
Whilst retaining the energy that sits at the core of all his work, Robin has been able to express his vision of landscape in a more technically constrained form of expression.
This Saturday we’ve got the fantastic Steve Wynn playing a show for us. Get your tix before they go! Please Please You
