"Masterpiece Minus (2002)"
Signed, limited edition 6/25, giclée print on Somerset paper, 42cm by 30cm
Remi Rough was born in 1971 in South London and makes complexly composed abstract paintings on surfaces ranging from paper, wood and canvas, to brick and concrete. His formative years and experiences as a style writer (or as most people would know it, a graffiti artist) inform his precise, constructed artworks. His clever use of highly sensory colour evokes an array of different feelings for the viewer and can at times be perceived as musical, due to the vibrational energy the work emits.

"Ouse Mouse"
Signed, limited edition 1/25, (created especially for the exhibition) giclee print on natural textured paper, 60cm by 80cm
Playful floats of crocodiles have been stalking Bristol and London's walls for decades courtesy of Rowdy, and in recent years these bold shapes have evolved to include fine, architectural impressions on canvas. Reaching back to the late 80's, the iconic works of Rowdy range from spray can on walls and characters on rocks, to abstract and gestural cityscapes of finger smudges on canvas. Ambiguous compositions are honest reflections of his environment: politically charged, yet deeply personal reflections of space. Whether literally drawing inspiration from his surroundings, or collaging his vision with wider interests or colour-fields, the result is a fluid and evolving style celebrating alternative culture and its ongoing metamorphosis.

Mannequin
Signed, spray paint on reclaimed shop mannequin, 23cm by 37cm
Chu was born in 1971 in a block of flats near Walsall, West Midlands. He grew up on a council estate and excelled in mathematics, art and craft, encouraged by his mother Sandra. Chu thrived academically despite growing up inside a turbulant household with an authoritative father, developing an interest in computers in 1978, securing a place at grammar school and later attending art college to focus his interest in the applied arts.
He found himself more at home in the graffiti community, developing his artistic skills further, and his artwork started to receive recognition through his late teens. Chu would often share his expertise with his peers, particularly in the application of printed media.
Banksy approached Chu to help him translate his street work into limited edition prints in 2002, and they worked together for many years. This established Chu as one of Banksy's early, preferred collaborators.

by Jim McElvaney
"The News Makes Me Sad"
Signed and numbered 3/25, limited edition Riso print, 30cm by 42cm
Jim McElvaney is a Sheffield based portrait artist. He is fascinated with the way we look at people, and the stories we create when watching strangers. His work aims to capture both the anonymity and familiarity of the faces we usually only ever glimpse at.
With an eye for those who are usually unseen, Jim harnesses elements of street photography to produce modern portraits of the people we miss when we're too busy looking at our phones.
As far as technique goes, Jim is a true mark-maker and his work follows an instinctual line. His experience of painting on the street keeps his technique fast and loose, whilst his fine art background battles for order and accuracy. In his paintings this juxtaposition is evident, as well-drafted features disappear into clouds of tone and colour, and arcing lines carry the eye beyond their natural end point. Small details are brought to the forefront and a subdued palate and surface textures create coarse expressions that look worn and well-lived in.

“The Deep"
Print, numbered 2/100, 57.5cm by 72.5cm (framed)
Lincoln Lightfoot is an established artist/illustrator who has built up a reputation across Yorkshire and the North-East. Lightfoot's artwork explores surreal concepts reminiscient of 1950's-60's B-Movie poster art. The artwork depicts a surreal twist on well-known settings, often depicting dinosaurs, UFOs and other unusual creatures. Inspired by iconic architecture and the absurdity of science fiction comedy disaster film, the artwork offers a Monty Python style of escapism from everyday problems. The imagery taps into the present condition of fear that our news, media and politicians perpetuate in a post Covid-19 world.

His formative years were spent painting graffiti, self-publishing fanzines and making experimental hip-hop invariably, illustrating and printing the record sleeves by hand. The culmination of these interests informed the development of his own unique aesthetic, which he has translated into innumerable graphics and silk screen editions, as well as campaigns and product designs for some of the worlds leading brands.
