Vale of York Stables have 4 very loved moggies we have had them all neutered chipped & vaccinated & they are very much loved & fed well by my 6 stable ladies, but we are now loosing them as another local person the other side of Deans garden centre is feeding them freshly cooked chicken letting them in their house & quite simply they are slowly gravitating away, we have retrieved them a few times but it seems the only way we can stop this is by literally fastening them inside which sort of destroys the point of having a stable cat any from any of you what to do

Massive thank you to Matt Baker who helped add mix level an extra 5 tons of high quality rubber we got all the way from Cheshire and then go over the top by weeding the corners All the girls are using it now and it did take a thumping over the last few years when it was a dealers yard

So today as my recently drained cultivated and sown winter paddocks needed topping and as they are so green and it is so dry we have added a little help this week so grateful to D & J Stead from getting back from compacted mud to be as green as this. We have also got a new livery starting so we are back to full again after just 2 weeks

New signage for the first time in years as we have got one horse to acre not only does Vale of York stables have lots of summer grass but we have had the remaining sheep helping to graze it and today had to resort to topping every ones field to keep it fresh It has been marvellous to see proper Pooh picking done actually removing it from the field and enough generosity and camaraderie among the clients to volunteer poo pick the field where both girls are poorly at the minute The greatest of thanks to Dean for re railing our arena with the new heavy duty rails and to all who have worked on the garden to return it to the paradise it used to be

So I have taken the decision to go semi retired now I have a brand new set of tenants/liveries so reduced my cattle from 30 to 20 soon to be be 16 and my sheep from 125 to 11 soon to be 6 but as my horses have gone from a peak of 32 on 6 acres last year to just 8 diy s on 8 acres this year it seems my levels of grass are not safe for the horses so now I have 11 diy sheep as my liveries are managing there extra grass with them

01/05/2022

So I have reduced my cattle from 35 to 18 and my sheep from 120 to what was going to be 6, I rented all my livestock fields out to my friend to enjoy semi retirement & it seems we are now in the extraordinary position of having gone from 32 horses on 6 acres to 8 horses on 8 acres now it seems my liveries all want to borrow the remaining 10 sheep as everyone has too much grass

So repairs and improvements continue at Vale of York Stables we had D & J Stead back who removed trailer loads of Haylage waste and drained the fields, this time to dig out, install membrane, stone and vibrate roll the old summer access which was always wet near each cross country jump and to install a new access post n rail lane to each winter paddocks as I have seen some nasty events leading horses in, through other horses fields but it’s now super safe As always if you want your premises elevating to an enviable position I do recommend D & J Stead

Well as I continue to maintain the livery today I decided to replace the fence with its cats cradle of electric wire on top and replace it with 8’ posts and 6’ of tightened weld mesh topped off with a rail all the while thinking to myself why do the horses even try to jump over it onto the winter paddocks I proudly finished it to be told no Derek it was to keep a stallion in so now we have a stallion paddock and no stallion not that we want one lol maybe I should take a little more notice

Timeline photos 10/04/2022

So we now have a trailer big enough for the jumps the bales and those awkward heavy loads

Vale of York stables opens tomorrow after several months of refurbishment last year we had at one point an incredulous 32 horses on 7 acres we have added 2 more acres but are limiting the horses to just 9 We have erected 5 feet high of tornado horse fencing topped of with 2” of electric tape The fields being divided by 3 electric ropes secured onto heavy posts all fields with automatic water and entry without having to walk through other horses There is now 160 metres of insulated lead out cable to avoid shorting on summer growth The earth is stainless steal jubilee clipped on and despite finding my energiser in a rubbish bag we have bought a much more powerful one that does 20 miles I think that should cover it What's more we are full from day 1

Vale of York stables have just spruced up our large purpose built concrete boxes, they have good floor fall & are roofed with double aluminium sheeted insulated panels 100mm thick, so they are cool in summer & with no condensation in winter , all boxes have automatic water & all within 40 meters of the winter paddocks.
We will open fully on the 1st of April but we can take on 2 more horses now, we have a really good defra made flood lit arena which never floods the total number will be limited to 8 we are adding more acreage to the summer grazing we charge £30 per week per horse 1 month in advance DIY any inspection welcome

Timeline photos 03/02/2022

Vale of York stables can now offer two boxes for diy livery our large stables are purpose built concrete buildings with 4” of foam inside the roofing sheets so no condensation in winter & cool in summer we have a 50 x 20 defeat built on top of compacted stone with 4 decent drains underneath it never floods

Timeline photos 27/01/2022

So we have trained up our present one and only diy livery to drive the farm tractor so she can level the arena as often as it needs it so hopefully as we take on more liveries we can train some of them up too so it’s always good and flat and ready to use

19/01/2022

We are currently upgrading our stables with view to opening at diy yard of only 8 horses by the 1st of April. there will be 4 large summer paddocks also separately accessible for 2 horses to share this will be from the April 1st until September the 30th We have had our home fields professionally land drained by D & J Stead built an access lane so they will be handy & dry for winter & can be reseeded & rested for 3 months in summer for winter
