Hello everyone. My phone number is back!! It has been out of action since July 24 - sorry! When I reported my phone stolen, Three suspended my account/number. I got a new phone and SIM card the following day, but getting the business phone number restored has proved challenging. I went right to the top to get this fixed (thank you Google). And this evening I received a call from the executive office of Three to tell me the suspension on my number had been lifted.🤩

This is on my calendar! I always love an afternoon event on a weekend. It's easy to find: take the Askham Bar turn-off from the A64 and get in the mood for Christmas!

This is a pretty bad photo, but July is almost over and I haven't yet posted this month! So here we are, the two company directors posing in our St Leonard's royalty T-shirts. I bought these at the St Leonard's Jubilee Walk last month. My fellow director missed the walk but loves the T-shirt. This year's walk was fabulous and it could have accommodated a lot more people. The event will happen again next June and is a great opportunity to take your friends from different parts of the UK or the world on an awesome evening tour of York city (and buy a colourful T-shirt to remember the night) 😁

On Saturday night Little Kiwis represented the Commonwealth in the fabulous St Leonard's Jubilee Walk. It was awesome to see the sights of York at night and talk to awesome people along the way.

Little Kiwi is thinking about hiring... At the moment there's only one of me to go around and I'm having to turn down work. As a socially responsible business, we don't like having to turn away people wanting help. The first person I hire will need to have some cleaning experience (not necessarily in a job situation) plus a driving license. I'm intending to pay that person well! I haven't created a formal job advert as yet. I just wanted to put it out there in the hope that someone awesome will get in touch.

We've just bought some tickets for our Little Kiwi team 😍 At least 3 of us will be representing Little Kiwi and the Commonwealth! A special visitor from Aotearoa will be joining us. Mahi tahi kia kaha 🌏

The walk is approximately 7 miles and is open to everyone. New Henry arrived today! My Hetty gave up yesterday morning. This guy is exactly the same, only red. I thought about changing brands, but the Numatics are really easy to maintain and have great attachments. Henry's now out of the box and in the car ready for work tomorrow 😍

Abi is just one of the wonderful staff members at St Leonard's Hospice, the awesome organisation that Little Kiwi Cleaning supports with its monthly Goodwill Wednesdays 🙂

Abi joined St Leonard's as Health Care Assistant in 2019 because she wanted to spend more time with patients, and became our Spiritual Care Lead in April 2020, using skills from inside and outside of work.

“I had a two-week induction where I visited every department, even the kitchen to make scones. I got to see everyone. There was so much time to just spend with a patient, just to be there talking to them. It was different to working on a very busy fast-paced ward. I love that you get to know someone so well at such a crucial point in their life.”

Abi is an ordained Minister in the Church of England and had a lot of chaplaincy experience including urban chaplaincy working with Street Angels. So when the previous Spiritual Care Lead retired it was a perfect fit. Abi’s role involves meeting cultural and religious needs and working with local faith leaders to help support patients.

“My role is to spend time with people and explore who they are at this time in their life. I’m the person who can ask awkward questions, finding out what is important to a patient and their family. It’s not always about religion; it’s creating a space where people can be who they are and find out who they are. I spend a lot of time listening, people are often surprised where their thoughts can take them. If you give someone time to talk, they will talk about things that are important to them and what is it for them to spend time meaningfully.

“Time is really complicated at the Hospice, you’ve got people who know time is short, people who would like it to be shorter, and people who would like it to be longer. It can often be that the person we’re caring for would like one thing and their loved ones would like another. Sometimes people for the first time in their life have significant time where they can do nothing but ‘be’. I try to help clear a path for people so that they can have some peace – peace is a really important word. It all comes back to that time that you give to people.”

The Little Kiwi Cleaning Company is a member of the Domestic Cleaning Business Network, which is a trade body for professional cleaners. Last night I had the pleasure of spending an evening with other cleaning business owners, some of whom have been in the industry for over a decade. With the DCBN behind me, I'm always learning something new and striving to deliver the best possible service to my clients.

Today I was in York, checking out the van Gogh Immersive Experience with Frank and Trix. If I had the choice between going to Musee D'Orsay to see some real paintings, or attending the experience, I would do the former. Yet the Immersive Experience is good, and provides something different to an art gallery.

So this is my post for the month 😆. At the moment Little Kiwi is totally booked out for regular cleans. However, some Wednesdays are left free for one-off cleans, oven cleans or other special projects 🥰. I love a challenge!

Yes, I have made a big Christmas cake 🤗, but this huge plastic box isn't for cake - it's for oven racks! I've got space for one more oven/kitchen deep clean before Christmas 😁. Actually I only have one more gap of any kind this year, and it's next Wednesday, the 15th of December.

Nice clean Bosch oven for Good Will Wednesday last week 😄. Good Will Wednesday can be any kind of deep cleaning, but I'm into doing ovens at the moment! I remove the doors, dismantle the doors, and remove all the bits from inside the oven, including the fan 😁. This way you'll get a properly clean oven, with no oven cleaner residues trapped behind the fan plate or anywhere else. When you book for the 3rd Wednesday of the month all proceeds go to St Leonard's Hospice 😍

This cute wee piece of kit came today. Lightweight cordless drill/screwdriver with accessories and its own carry case, which will fit nicely inside Fat Max. Not all cleaners come equipped with these kinds of tools. I'm not a normal cleaner, I'm a kind of domestic superheroine 🤣💪

My new uniform by Lincoln by Design has arrived! It's exactly what I wanted. I want to wear it all day, even though it's Saturday 🤣

I've now been open 3 weeks! October 20 was my first Good Will Wednesday. I cleaned for a lovely elderly couple and, as requested, they gave a donation to St Leonard's Hospice in lieu of payment. The lady had actually been a nurse for St Leonard's for around 10 years 😍. It feels double lucky to meet some great people and direct some money towards our awesome local hospice.
