We’re classing this week as a soft launch so please bare with us whilst we find our feet in the new site. We’re hoping for everything to go super smoothly but
with anything new, we may face a challenge or two!

Delivery systems will be on once we’ve settled in so for now it’s dine in only. The booking system is currently being updated but there’s loads of space for walk ins so just rock up and we’ll get you seated!

🚨WE’RE NOT LEAVING YORK🚨

So yes, we are leaving the Gillygate store this Sunday for good, but we’re NOT leaving York. No way. Not a chance.

We’ve been in talks with another venue for a few months now and after looking at all of the pros and cons, have decided that the right thing to do for the longer term is move. As we said in Thursday’s post, the Gillygate store has become extremely difficult to maintain and with the current site going up for sale and the never ending rising costs every hospitality business faces, the logical thing to do is to share these costs.

The new site is spectacular. With beautiful dining areas, plenty of outdoor seating for those summer hangs (it’s a sun trap too!) and smack bang in the centre, it’s the perfect next step for Doner Summer York.

More details to follow but all will be revealed in the next couple of days! And if all goes to plan, we’ll only be closed for a day or two max. All existing bookings will be honoured but if we hit any major delays (we’re confident this won’t happen) we will be in touch.

We can’t wait to show you all the new site. Get ready, it’s a beauty.

📣 WE’RE CLOSING GILLYGATE📣

It’s with a heavy heart that we’ve decided to leave our York site on Gillygate. It’s been a rollercoaster few years but the time has come to say goodbye. It’s become such a difficult site to maintain because of its age and the HUGE garden and we’ve had an opportunity to vacate as the landlady wants to sell the property.

We want to say a massive thank you to everyone that has come through the doors, partied in the garden, and fed Roger the resident black bird. We’ll miss those days for sure.
Our last day at Gillygate will be THIS SUNDAY 19th May. So come down one last time before we close the doors for good.

Please note the garden will remain closed as we haven’t made it Summer ready due to us leaving!

BUT. As they say. When one door closes, another one opens………… 👀

Our favourite festival of the year is happening 26th-29th July and we cannot WAIT! It’s by far the UK’s largest vegan food event with some of the biggest players in the game.

We’ve kept this one quiet, but we can finally reveal that our spin off brand ChowChow will be popping up .york from THIS WEDNESDAY 24TH APRIL 💥

If you missed it last time, ChowChow is an all vegan, pan Asian concept. Think karaage chick’n, smashed cucumber, gyoza, build your own bowls with things like special fried rice, crispy “beef” and a sh*t tonne more.
york is bang in the centre of York on Grape Lane, with an amazing dining area, a massive range of drinks and even an orangery!

Pop-up hours as follows -

🚨SUNDAY ROAST UPDATE🚨

This Sunday (7th April) will be the last chance to get your hands on our Sunday roast menu until Sunday 28th April. Every Sunday in between will the regular menu. From then on the Sunday dinner menu will be available on the last Sunday of every month only.

This will give us time to shake things up as the months go on with new and innovative ideas. We’ve got some pretty ace dishes in the works that we can’t WAIT to show you!

Bookings are open as usual for this Sunday 🤘And yes, before you ask, the unlimited gravy will always be a thing.

Just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone that came down for our first ever Sunday roast! We go again this Sunday and it’s Mothers Day! There’s still a few tables left but be quick they won’t be available for long!
Side note if you can’t make it down please let us know so we can give your table to someone else. Had a few no shows last week and it made us very sad and the customers we turned away very sad.

Turns out the booking system in York wasn’t allowing any bookings before 3pm on Sunday 🤦‍♂️ This is now fixed and bookings are open from 12pm🥳

Ok. Here it is. Our first EVER Sunday Roast menu.

We’re going old school trad pub vibes with the option of a 2 or 3 course set menu. If it’s just the main event you’re after then no probs! Any 2 courses for £21 (choose from either the starter or dessert section) or if you’re going full guns then it’s the starter, main and dessert for £25! There’s pigs in blankets and cauliflower cheese on the extras section as well as the option to get more Yorkshire puddings! Oh. And it’s UNLIMITED gravy 💥

Launching this Sunday 3rd in both leeds and York. Bookings are HIGHLY advised. Leeds is almost fully booked already 😅

Please note that this will be the only menu on offer this Sunday. We will be offering the main only on delivery platforms whenever it’s possible to have them switched on. Fingers crossed as the weeks go on we will be introducing the entire menu onto & platforms 🤞
