Discover Javanese culture through dance!
In this introductory workshop to Javanese dance, you’ll explore basic movements and learn a short sequence of the dance Gambyong Pankgur to live gamelan music.
Become musically aware of the tunes of Gamelan, and get a taste of how people in Central Java dance.
Javanese dance is practised and performed bare feet, but non-slip socks are acceptable to be worn.
Wear comfortable clothes and bring a bottle of water.
Everyone is welcome. No experience necessary. Minors must be accompanied by a parent.
You are never too old to experience something new!

At last! We're finally able to get this gamelan back on the road again! Having a lovely week at Burton Pidsea Primary School - lovely staff and pupils and a very warm welcome as part of their Indonesia week. Thanks Youth Music, East Riding of Yorkshire Council and Department of Music, University of York for making this possible.

Striking the right note: Music and the Deaf and NCEM I Can Play! is a fruitful collaborative project from MatD and the NCEM designed to encourage young people with hearing loss to engage with music education. Hattie Fisk finds out more.
