A big thank you to the Music Education Group from York University for providing a fabulous boomwhackers workshop for Gillygate and Fossgate this week. Everyone had lots of fun learning about tempo, dynamics and pitch.
In choir this week, we had fun using glockenspiels to accompany one of our songs.
For World Book Day, Year 1 went to Waterstones to collect their free books. On the way, we spotted some of York’s Snooks from the character trail! 📕
This week, Micklegate and Stonegate were working on singing a song whilst clapping various opposing rhythms. They did a great job!
Reception had a busy stay and play session this week to show our parents how we can write in the areas! Thank you to all those who could attend!
This week in enrichment we have made beef burgers and vegetable burgers.
This week in enrichment we have made 3 different variations of the family favourite cottage pie including a vegan and vegetarian versions.
Year 1 Ousegate have been creating artwork this week in the style of our artist Kamau ‘Cartoon’ Joseph. Look at their amazing vibrant colours, patterns and shapes.
This week, we had a visit from the Fire Service who taught us all about how to keep safe in a fire and how they help. The children even got to use the hose and sit in the engine!
So proud to work with the brilliant musicians in Haxby Road Primary Academy Orchestra. They are always up for a challenge! Here they are playing a fast, jolly piece called Fiddle Time.
In music this week, Y1 have been learning to follow ‘heart’ beats and grid scores. They are excellent at keeping a steady beat!
Fossgate have learnt to play the A minor chord on their ukuleles and they demonstrate it fabulously in their new song A Minor Miracle. They are such cool rock stars!
Amazed by how beautifully Gillygate can play their new note G in their song ‘Joe Joe’. They now know three notes on their recorders and are sounding very smooth indeed! Well done, Gillygate!
Micklegate and Stonegate have been learning to use the bow on their string instruments. They practised finding the best position to place the bow on the strings and produce a smooth sound.
This week, the ukulele players in Fossgate have been learning a new fingerpicking pattern to accompany their song. Fishergate enjoyed singing ‘Sally Go Round the Sun’ and hitting the drum on the ‘boom’ at the end. Gillygate have been working hard on their recorders and are learning to play a piece with the notes A and B. They can follow the phrases of the piece carefully and are good at starting and stopping together.
Today, Reception loved having a visit from a Police Officer who taught us how she helps others and works to keep people safe. The children got to explore her equipment, ask questions and spent the afternoon creating pictures and writing about the police force!
Upper KS2 had their first go on the string instruments. They played violins, violas and cellos and started with pizzicato (plucking the strings) to play their 1st note, D.
Our new orchestra group worked well together this week. Great concentration and teamwork! A fabulous start to the new year!

Hi all,
Years 3 and 4 are holding a cake/bun sale next Thursday 26th October 2023, to raise money to adopt an animal, as part of our Cs the day learning. This half term, we are focusing on C for Care.
The sale will take place during morning break.
Any cakes or buns would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Gillygate are starting to make a lovely smooth sound on their recorders. Here they are practising the note B in their piece B B Blues.
Reception enjoyed exploring the past last week! We learnt how photographs were in black and white so the children used oil pastels to make their own black and white drawings of things from the past!
Some action shots from the last few weeks of cook school!
Please see below for information regarding the EYFS open evening.

Here at Haxby Road we have made the decision to ensure we are doing everything we can to promote and support the Mental Health of everyone in our school community. Mental Health is a thread that runs through each and every part of our school day.
This is no more evident than in our newly created Reflection Room. This offers a calm and supportive environment for our children to really enjoy the time they deserve to think and talk about what it is to have positive mental health. In the reflection room we run 1:1 sessions focusing on key emotions, small group interventions to aid positive peer interactions and whole class circles where we are giving our children the language and skills they can take throughout their lives to continuously support their mental health. We are so proud of what we do at Haxby Road and would always welcome people to come and see what it is we do.
Two pushchair’s have been left in the pushchair chair shed around near Tiny Steps, one for over a year and one for the past few months. If they look familiar, please can they be collected as they are taking up space.
Appeal - If you have any spare children's clothing ages 2,3,4,5 years (both genders) which you no longer need, donations to Tiny Steps would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
