Sometimes there's a theme to the class, sometimes there's a prop, sometimes a specific goal. It is never just a load of moves flung together without any thought. This week it's bands and long limbs.

Forgive me for mentioning the C-word ππππ I would LOVE to get together with as many of my wonderful Pilates tribe as possible for a bit of a festive hangout. I have asked the lovely Jess at Jorvine if we could reserve the garden room one evening in December. Please let me know below if you would like to come and if so which date is preferable. Wed 7th December or Friday 16th December? I really hope we can make this happen, Jorvine is such a gorgeous place and the garden room is divine so to be able to have a get together AND support another local business would be awesome.

We have spent 5 weeks focusing predominantly on balance; practicing balance exercises and working on sequences that help strengthen and stretch the necessary muscles to help our balance. So the question this week was "can we do squats on a foam roller?" The answer across the board was a resounding "YES WE CAN!" Ace work as always Fulford Pilates team. Ace! Work! πππππ
Fancy a laugh? Me really not looking or doing my best and doing some very wobbly and sweaty, red-faced balance exercises. I just invested in this huge big water bag to up my strength training. It's quite fun. It makes a simple squat very difficult as the 15kg of water sloshes about, never mind balancing on one leg and lifting it from the ground to overhead. Check out my chuffed face when I finally manage it equally well (or equally badly rather) on both legs, it took quite a few attempts. π€£ Have a super Sunday folks. See lots of you again this week. Request for classes this week as we return after half term. The gliders are back after a very long time under my stairs. Starting out working on shoulder mobility and thoracic extension and building into more core stability work as I take my bodyweight forwards with the gliders in the second half (check out how I close my eyes and focus knowing how hard the last bits will be π€£). Back to normal tomorrow!! My own handyman made a last minute trip home today to fix this. FINALLY the glass arrived and we no longer have a boarded up window. Full timetable resumes tomorrow too. Tested negative all week. π
Dirty Dancing π Who else adored this film? I just introduced my daughter to it and I forgot how much i loved it. It has genuinely warmed my heart and I am going to download the soundtrack. πΆ But my reason for mentionning it here is balance. Michael Moseley was on Radio Two today, talking about the best thing you can do for your health on a regular basis in a very brief time and the answer was balance. Hence my gratituitous sharing of the wonder that is Patrick Swayze balancing on a log. π π Can you stand on one leg? Can you close your eyes whilst doing so? Can you hold that for 10 seconds? 30? If not then I regularly recommend to people (as did Michael Moseley today) that you start practicing doing this while brushing your teeth. Count how long you can hold it and try for longer tomorrow. Do it every single day. What else are you doing while brushing your teeth? They reckon that very few people over 40 can stand on one leg for 10 seconds with their eyes closed. Can you? The news is in. The news is good. Pilates is a go-go! π₯³π₯³π₯³ Classes start in here with me next week. Almost everyone who requested a class has been given a space and in a slot they wanted. I am so sorry to those that I cannot fit in just yet, hopefully by mid-June I might be allowed to accomodate one extra in a class if the 2m rule is relaxed. Please do check your email and confirm you are happy with your slot and are still wanting to attend, as I do have waiting lists for some classes. If you want to join us I have space on a Monday at 10.30am and need 2 more people for that class (must have experience or be fit and well as it isn't a beginners class). So total beginners or those wanting something more gentle I have a list starting for a third class on a Friday at 12noon. Drop me a line if you are interested in either of these.
