Michael Kitso Dingake's Memorial
Dingake's contribution to the liberation struggle was immense. He bravely, selflessly and fearlessly fought a battle: apartheid and injustice, that wasn't inherently his own. His willingness to stand up against injustice of any form, even when it didn't directly affect him, illustrates his spirit of true courageousness and drive for solidarity. I personally, and my team at Box Screen Pictures, were afforded the opportunity to narrate part of his story through a documentary film; Ties That Bind. It was nothing short of an amazing journey, painfully so, of what he endured during his incarceration at Robben Island. Dingake' s contribution to the freedom of the regional block during the aggregation of the apartheid government is without doubt invaluable, and represents his commitment to justice and fundamentally, human rights; inspiring others with his unwavering commitment to freedom and equality. His dedication to the cause left an indelible mark on our history, a story which has duly been told.
The Founder and Team at Box Screen Pictures would like to express their sincerest condolences to the Dingake family, and wish for his legacy to continue to inspire generations and generations to come.
How Dingake wanted to be remembered.🕊️

On the 20th of October, 2022, the subject and inspiration behind the award winning documentary film Ties that Bind, Michael Dingake, was honored by the University of Botswana with a Doctor of Letters. This was to acknowledge and honor Dingake as a monumental individual in Botswana, and his invaluable and selfless contribution to the liberation struggle of South Africa and the Southern African region.
I am grateful to be celebrated by my University, York St. John and Media Production department for my recent award triumph at the Sotambe International Film Festival for my production on unsung heroes of Africa; Ties that Bind.
Ties that Bind | York St John University Mpho Dintwa has been awarded one of the top prizes at the Sotambe International Film Festival for his documentary Ties that Bind. The film tells the tale of Michael Dingake, a political activist and writer who was a fellow prisoner of Nelson Mandela in the battle against apartheid.
