In the press briefing by the Ministry of Information on Tuesday, 22 December 2020, it was hinted that the President is yet to decide on the resumption of schools after a cabinet meeting on 30th December, 2020.
However, a committee was set up by the Minister of Education in September to make recommendations on the guidelines for school's to be resumed in full.
Their report was to be submitted in a month's time.
What happened to that committee's report?

Is the re-openig of JHS 3 and SHS 3 students who went back to school to complete their syllabuses and also wrote their exams, the re-opening of schools for the JHS 2 and SHS 2 where little or no Covid-19 cases were recorded not enough proof that schools can well manage their students under a strict Covid-19 safety protocols?

If the voters registration exercise, exhibition of voters register, the general elections, the re-opening of churches , the re-opening of markets in full where school children are seen all over the place yet Covid -19 cases are still under control did not pose any threats, what evidence of proof do we need as a country again for the full resumption of schools?

Most private school teachers are Distance Education students whose means of paying their fees is the little salary they get from private schools they teach.
Some of these Private School teachers are parents whose children have been admitted into various tertiary institutions set to re-open in January. How would they pay their children's fees?

The stimulus package did not holistically include private school teachers in the country making them suffer seriously in these hard times.
It is of this view that I write as a citizen and not a spectator that schools must be re-opened in full by January 2021 to ease the economic hardships some have endured over a period of 9 months.
I believe the President will agree with me on this and proper measures will be put in place to see to the full re-op
