Ghana is indeed a beautiful country, offering much enjoyment to visitors. Musicians, actors, and even those who have visited the country testify to its appeal, especially at night when the atmosphere is different, and the experience of enjoyment is unique. However, there is a stark contrast within the country, particularly evident in its prisons. Despite being loved by many, including presidents from other countries who appreciate its peaceful coexistence, there exists a city within Ghana that can be likened to hell – its prisons.

While it's acknowledged that prisons exist in every country, the conditions in Ghana's prisons are unbearable. Comparisons to hell are not unfounded, given the substandard sleeping quarters, inadequate food, and often unjust sentences. Many inmates don't deserve to be behind bars, and the prevalence of sickness and lack of medical attention exacerbate the suffering. Despite Ghana's wealth, the prisons paint a grim picture of neglect.

The government's allocation of 1 cedi 80 pesewas (0.32 dollars) per day per inmate for food is woefully insufficient. The meals provided are far from adequate, considering the meager budget allocated. This situation is unacceptable, and urgent reforms are needed to address the deplorable conditions in Ghana's prisons. It's time to listen to the voices of the inmates, understand their stories, and advocate for change.
