Meet our New Board Chair- Nicholas Apokerah

Nicholas Apokerah is the founder of TradeAID Integrated an alternative tradeand enterprise development organization. Nicholas has led TradeAID Integrated since 2001 as its Executive Director. To date the work of Trade AID has touched the lives of about 52,000 people out of which about 69% are women and vulnerable.

Nicholas Apokerah Holds Executive Masters in Development Policies and Practices from the Geneva Graduate Institute and an MBA candidate of the Business School of Netherlands.

Nicholas also holds a B.A in Economics and Diploma in Education from the University of Cape Coast Ghana In addition, Mr. Apokerah holds certificates in a number of courses among which include Small Enterprise Policy and Promotion, Market Access and Sustainable Development, Food safety in value chains in Sub-Sahara Africa, Social Banking and Social Enterprise Development from a number of International training Institutions, among which includes National Institute of Small Industry Extension Training (NISIET)- India), Wageningen International.
Netherlands, the Institute of Social Banking Bochum, Germany and the Social & Inclusive Business Campus of AFD Marseille, France.
Mr. Apokerah has close to 20years of experience in facilitating rural development. His development interest in the area of rural enterprise development, fair trade, trade policy advocacy, market led interventions, Value Chains development and participatory monitoring and evaluation.

Nicholas comes back the Board of Shea Network Ghana (SNG) as one of its founding members and actually the first Acting Coordinator of the Network.

Throughout the week, our Project and Accounts Team under the Women's Economic Advancement for Collective Transformation (WEACT) have been taking part in Project Management Team (PMT) Meeting in Accra, the nation's capital.
WEACT is a five-year Project implemented by OXFAM in Ghana in consortium with other partners such as Shea Network - Ghana , Tungteiya Womens' Association , Norsaac, SEND GHANA , FoN Ghana, Women in Law and Development in Africa - Wildaf Ghana and in the Northern, Savanna, Upper East, Upper West, Western North and Western Regions.
The aim is to achieve Women's Economic Emancipation and redistribute unpaid care work in the domestic setting.

The Week-Long Meeting was organized by Oxfam funded by Global Affairs Canada

Today, the Shea Network - Ghana together with our partners, Women in Law and Development in Africa - Wildaf Ghana continued our Regional Engagement Meetings on the 2 policy briefs we produced under the Women's Economic Advancement for Collective Transformation (WEACT) Project in the Savanna Region
The policy briefs:

STRENGTHENING MULTI-STAKEHOLDER COLLABORATION ON ACCESS TO JUSTICE TO PROMOTE WOMEN'S ECONOMIC ADVANCEMENT

and

INCREASING AWARENESS OF WOMEN'S LEGAL RIGHTS CONTRIBUTES TO THEIR ECONOMIC ADVANCEMENT.

These policy briefs are geared towards women's economic growth and empowerment.

The Regional Engagements follows a successful National Launch which was done at the Modern City Hotel in Tamale on February 20, 2024.

The two documents were developed following series of survey done by the Thematic Led, WiLDAF on systemic barriers to women's economic participation.
The project is implemented in 6 Regions (Northern, Savanna, Upper East Upper West, Western North and Western Regions) by OXFAM in Ghana in consortium with other partners such as the Shea Network Ghana, FoN Ghana, SEND GHANA , Norsaac , Tungteiya Womens' Association

On going now at the Pioneer Guest Lodge in Tamale is the Northern Regional Policy Engagement with Ministries, Departments and Agencies in the Community Structure on the Findings and Recommendations of two policy briefs under the Women's Economic Advancement for Collective Transformation (WEACT) Project.

As part of measures to encourage sustainability of the shea tree and also to promote Women's Economic Empowerment, the Shea Network - Ghana (SNG) facilitated the signing of bylaws by chiefs and peoeple of Kananto in the West Gonja Municipality of the Savanna Region.
As actors in the Shea Value Chain, bushburning and uncontrolled cutting of the shea tree, continues to hinder progress we have chalked over the years, hence the signing of the by-laws, was necessary to prevent and protect shea treesand as well advance women's economic groewth.
in all, 2 by-laws :
1. Prohibition on Setting/Causing Bush Fires and
2. Prohibition on Economic Trees Destruction, were signed by the chief of the community and othe stakeholders representing various groups.
The move, formed part of the implementation of the Wpmen's Economic Advancement for Collective Transformation (WEACT) implememnted by we the Shea Network - Ghana in partnership with other organizaions such as Norsaac, SEND GHANATungteiya Womens' Association , FoN Ghana, Women in Law and Development in Africa - Wildaf Ghana, and supervise by OXFAM in Ghana.
WEACT is being implemeted in the Northern, Savanna, Upper East, Upper West, Western North and Western Regions seeking to increase productivity and revenue of economically active women covcoa farmers or active women shea produccers and improve enabling enviroment and reduce gender-spefic barriers for women's particpation in economic growth in the 6 regions.
The aim of the by-laws signed was to improve women and girls' economic empowerment
