*LET'S TALK ABOUT BENIGN PROSTATE HYPERPLASIA (BPH)*
*What is Benign Prostate Hyperplasia (BPH)?*
Benign Prostate Hyperplasia (BPH), also known as prostate gland enlargement, is a common condition among aging men. It involves the non-cancerous growth of the prostate gland, leading to urinary symptoms due to the compression of the urethra.
*Possible Causes of BPH:*
*1* - *Hormonal Changes:* Age-related hormonal changes, particularly an increase in dihydrotestosterone (DHT), contribute to prostate gland enlargement.
*2* - *Age:* BPH is more prevalent in older men, with the risk increasing with age.
*3* - *Genetics:* Family history and genetic factors can predispose individuals to BPH.
*4* - *Lifestyle Factors:* Obesity, lack of physical activity, alcoholism, smoking, and a diet high in saturated fats are associated with an increased risk of BPH.
*5* - *Diabetes and Metabolic Syndrome:* Conditions such as diabetes and metabolic syndrome may contribute to the development of BPH.
*6* - *Inflammation:* Chronic inflammation of the prostate gland (prostatitis) may play a role in the development of BPH.
*Symptoms of BPH:*
*1* - *Urinary Frequency:* Men with BPH may experience an increased frequency of urination, especially at night (nocturia).
*2* - *Urgency:* There may be a sudden and urgent need to urinate, leading to discomfort.
*3* - *Weak Urine Stream:* BPH can cause a weak urine stream and difficulty initiating urination.
*4* - *Incomplete Emptying:* Patients may feel that their bladder is not fully empty after urination.
*Effects on Male Er****on:*
BPH can affect male er****on and sexual function in several ways:
*1* - *Erectile Dysfunction:* BPH itself does not directly cause erectile dysfunction *(ED)*, but the urinary symptoms and associated psychological distress may impact sexual function.
*2* - *Medications:* Some medications used to treat BPH, such as alpha-blockers, may have side effects that affect sexual function.
*3* - *Psychological Impact:* The stress, anxiety, and embarrassment caused by urinary symptoms can contribute to sexual dysfunction and decreased libido.
*Outlines Remedies for BPH:*
*1* - *Lifestyle Modifications:* Encouraging lifestyle changes such as maintaining a healthy weight, regular exercise, and a balanced diet low in saturated fats and high in fruits and vegetables may help manage BPH symptoms.
*2* - *Medications:* Alpha-blockers and 5-alpha reductase inhibitors are commonly prescribed medications for BPH. They work by relaxing the muscles around the prostate gland and reducing its size.
*3* - *Minimally Invasive Procedures:* Minimally invasive procedures such as transurethral microwave therapy (TUMT), transurethral needle ablation (TUNA), and prostate artery embolization (PAE) can help relieve urinary symptoms without the need for surgery.
*4* - *Surgical Interventions:* In severe cases or when other treatments are ineffective, surgical interventions such as transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP), laser therapy, or open prostatectomy may be necessary to remove or reduce the size of the prostate gland.
*CONCLUSION*
Benign Prostate Hyperplasia is a common condition among aging men characterized by the non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate gland. It can cause urinary symptoms, affect male er****on and sexual function, and significantly impact quality of life.
Treatment options range from lifestyle modifications and medications to minimally invasive procedures and surgery, depending on the severity of symptoms and individual patient factors. Early diagnosis and appropriate management are crucial for improving outcomes and reducing the impact of BPH on male health and well-being.

In the meantime, please take care of yourself because your health is your wealth!
Good morning family,
Today we'll like to share some words of motivation with us all.
We are all destined for greatness in whatever sphere we find ourselves and at whatever time we are in in our personal lives but unfortunately we are sometimes so scared of some forms of setbacks on this journey that we decide not to dream at all, forgetting that in our dreams we do not have to see any obstacles unless we want to. That is the distinctive factor!
Our dreams are like blank sheets given to us with a pencil in hand to put down whatever we want with many options for corrections so why limit yourself even with your dreams?
See, dreaming is easy and the effort for dreaming big or small is the same.
So, why not dream big?
Dream Big!!
*What is Oligos***mia*
*Oligos***mia* is a medical condition found in men, which is characterised by a low s***m count in their semen. In order to get a woman pregnant, a healthy amount of s***m in a man's semen is usually necessary.
If the s***m count is less than 15 million s***m per millilitre (mL), then the condition is called oligos***mia. That's according to World Health Organization publications in 2009.
*Oligos***mia* can be classified into three categories. These are
*1* *Mild Oligos***mia*, when the s***m count is between, 10 to 15 million s***m/mL.
*2* *Moderate Oligos***mia* is diagnosed when s***m count lies between 5 to 10 million s***m/mL.
*3* *Severe Oligos***mia* is when the s***m count is between 0 and 5 million s***m/mL.
*Causes of Oligos***mia*
The causes of the condition includes:
*1* *Hormonal Imbalances*: The hormones required for s***m production are produced by the hypothalamus and pituitary glands. The s***m production gets impaired if any alteration occurs in these hormones.
*2* *Ejaculatory Problems* : When semen instead of flowing out of the p***s, reverses back to the bladder, then it is known as retrograde ej*******on. This condition can reduce the s***m counts and cause infertility in men.
*3* *Undescended Testicles*: Men born with this condition are unlikely to be fertile. If during fetal development *(Embryology)*, the testicles do not descend from the abdomen into the sac that forms the sc***um, then the fertility of that person gets hampered.
*4* *Anti-s***m antibodies:* Certain immune system cells known as anti-s***m antibodies tend to kill the s***m cells by mistakenly identifying them as harmful invaders causing low s***m count.
*5* *Chromosomal Abnormalities:* Certain genetic disorders like Klinefelter's syndrome, Kallmann's syndrome and Kartagener' syndrome can cause abnormal development in the male reproductive organs.
*6* *Obstructions:* Obstruction is one of the major causes of Oligos***mia. The tubes that carry s***m, if blocked by some abnormal developments like *Cystic Fibrosis* or any injury due to prior surgeries and infections, can lead to a low flow of semen.
*7* *Trauma or injury:* Some surgeries like vasectomy, hernia repair surgery, scrotal surgeries, prostate surgeries, etc. can reduce the s***m count in your ej*****te.
*8* *Certain medications:* Certain medicines like antifungal, antibiotic, ulcer medicines, chemotherapy drugs, testosterone replacement therapy etc. can impair s***m production in one's body.
*9* *Environmental factors:* Exposure to chemicals, radiation, and heavy metals can reduce s***m production.
*Symptoms of Oligos***mia*
For some men, there are no obvious signs and symptoms of *Oligos***mia* seen. But can only be diagnosed when they find difficulty to get their Women pregnant.
But if a man has oligos***mia due to other underlying issues like Chromosomal Abnormalities, hormonal imbalance or any obstruction, then certain signs and symptoms may occur.
*Let's take a look at the symptoms of oligos***mia as given below:*
*1* Swelling, pain, or lump in te**is.
*2* Sexual functioning issues like the inability to maintain an er****on during sexual in*******se or erectile dysfunction.
*3* Low facial and body hair growth and other signs of chromosomal abnormalities and hormonal imbalances.
*4* Thick discharge.
*5* Enlarged and swollen veins in the sc***um.
*6* If this problem happens due to transmission of a virus, then one can experience some burning sensation while urinating.
*Risk Factors*
There are a number of risk factors associated with low s***m count. Below are some of the risks of *Oligos***mia:*
*1* Unhealthy habits like smoking, consuming alcohol, and illicit use of drugs.
*2* Being overweight.
*3* Depression or stress in work and family life.
*4* Being affected by certain infections in past.
*5* Exposure to toxins and chemicals.
*6* Testicles being exposed to extreme heat.
*7* Trauma or injury to the testicles.
Having chronic illness or tumors and undergoing treatments like radiation and chemotherapy.
*Oligos***mia* is caused by various medical, genetic, lifestyle and environmental factors.
Certain aspects are unavoidable, but there are other such known factors that can be prevented to protect one's fertility.
✔️ Leading a healthy life, keeping stress at bay and avoiding chemical exposure are some of the effective measures to have healthy s***m production.
✔️ If a person is affected by Oligos***mia due to any genetic and medical reason, then a proper treatment can improve their production in some cases.
*Diagnosis of Oligos***mia*
Testing and diagnosis of the condition may involve the following:
*1*. Semen analysis
*2*. Scrotal ultrasound
*3*. Hormone testing
*4*. Post-ej*******on urine analysis.
*5* Genetic tests and testicular biopsy.
*6* Anti-s***m antibody tests
*7* Specialized s***m function tests.
*8* Transrectal ultrasound.
*Treatment of Oligos***mia*
There are many ways to treat this medical condition, which includes the following:
*1* If varicocele or vasectomy is the reason for oligos***mia, then it can be easily corrected or reversed through a surgery.
*2* With proper medications and hormone treatments, the s***m count can be increased in some cases.
*3* Maintaining a good and healthy lifestyle through regular exercises and avoiding smoking and alcoholism can improve the s***m count to some extent.
*4* If nothing works, then consulting a fertility expert will be your next best option.
*5* The doctor would help you with assisted reproductive treatments.
