KMRNP FOUNDATION STONE LAYING -POST APPRECIATION
The momentous occasion of the laying of the foundation stone for the Kanifing Municipal Road Network Project (KMRNP) in Bakau marks a significant step forward in the development of our community. With enthusiasm and pride, the groundbreaking event symbolized the commencement of the ambitious three hundred million Dalasi project, promising to transform the transportation infrastructure of the Kanifing Municipal area.
The event, graced by the presence of esteemed stakeholders with Mayor Talib Ahmed Bensouda laying the foundation stone, was a testament to the unity and collaboration driving this transformative initiative forward. Their unwavering support and attendance underscored a shared commitment to enhancing the quality of life for residents through improved road networks. As we embark on this journey together, bolstered by the solidarity of all involved, most notably the Contractors, Longjian Road and Bridges Company, we look forward to the realization of a modernized and interconnected Kanifing Municipal area that will serve as a testament to our collective vision and determination.

The Gambia has played a crucial role in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), advocating for peace, tolerance, human rights, and a world free from racism and war. The former Gambian president, Sir Dawda, was instrumental in promoting these basic principles and values. Due to his advocacy, the OIC adopted the Mecca Declaration in 1981, which emphasizes the unity of the ummah and respect for human rights.
Despite the Gambia's small size, Sir Dawda held an executive position in the OIC and served as the Chairman of the OIC Islamic Peace Committee. Under his leadership, Gambia played a significant role in the OIC, particularly during the war between Iran and Iraq. Sir Dawda was able to end the conflict between the two Muslim states, which earned him the respect of the Muslim ummah.
As the chair of the Islamic peace committee, Sir Dawda had consistently emphasized the importance of unity among the ummah. He had reminded OIC members that it would be difficult, if not impossible, to achieve major objective.

This Tuesday, 16 April 2024, under the WAPIS (West Africa Police Information System/AFIS (Automated Fingerprint Identification System) Project, INTERPOL, with the European Union and the national authorities, officially launched the implementation of the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) in The Gambia.
Implementing AFIS marks a milestone in the European Union and INTERPOLโs commitment to increase the capacity of law enforcement agencies to identify suspects, match fingerprints from crime scenes and link criminal cases through scientifically based evidence.
Bringing biometric data to the existing national police information system implemented under the WAPIS Programme, the AFIS system will consolidate the national database available to law enforcement agencies.
Over the coming months, INTERPOL will assist Gambian LEAs (Law enforcement agencies) to tailor the national AFIS system to fit the legal and criminal investigation requirements specific to the country.
Together with the AFIS service provider, THALES, INTERPOL will coordinate the ex*****on of the product delivery and ensure that all parties collaborate towards the successful deployment of the AFIS technology.
On behalf of the National Security Advisor, Director Mulai Colley highlighted that the AFIS Project is part of the security sector reform process undertaken by the government. He also lauded the Project for contributing to regional and international cooperation.
Participating in the event, the chargรฉ dโaffaires of the European Union, Raphaรซl Brigandi, stated: โAFIS represents a significant step forward in modernising the approach to criminal justice and policing. It actually represents a Copernican revolution by enabling The Gambia to move from a culture of confession to a culture of proof.โ
Herve Raffourt, Senior Project Manager of the WAPIS/AFIS Project emphasized that the AFIS technology will be solely and fully owned and operated by the Gambian law enforcement agencies and that no data will be accessed by external parties, unless specifically authorized.
CP Samba Jawo, representing the Inspector General of the Gambia Police Force (GPF), emphasized that the AFIS technology will โenhance the way [Gambia] handles fingerprint data and investigations and that it will โgreatly enhance the [countryโs] ability to solve crimes and bring perpetrators to justiceโ.
On behalf of the IGP, he thanked the stakeholders for their support and guidance. He also commended the โhard work and dedication of the [Gambian] officers at the forefront of implementing [the AFIS] technology
To conclude, Mr. Brigandi and Mr. Raffourt thanked the national institutions for expressing their commitment to work together and collaboratively during the implementation phase of the Gambian AFIS technology.
The WAPIS/AFIS Project is implemented in the ECOWAS members states and Mauritania. It is funded by the European Union, under the political guidance of ECOWAS, and coordinated by INTERPOL with technical support of CIVIPOL.
