Astypalea is part of the Dodecanese island group.

It is common in Greek islands to name their capital Chora. Astypalea’s Chora is a very beautiful town with white🤍 houses with blue💙 doors and windows.

Another beautiful landmark are its 8 🌬️windmills 🌬️and ecclesiastical museums!

There is also a castle on the highest top of the town and below lies the famous and most beautiful church of the Dodecanese islands🔝🔝🔝:

The BIGGEST 🎊🎉festival of this island is on the 15th of August, when the Greek Orthodox church celebrates the Assumption of Virgin Mary.

For this reason, locals will gather for a 3-day long celebration 🎉 🎶🍷🐑🥗at the church of Panagia Portaitissa⛪️

Its pebbled floor churchyard is set up with violins🎻🎻🎶and people of all ages dance in circles on the 14th and 15th of August.

These dances last until dawn🌅

On the 16th of August the traditional “koukania”take place! These are various competitions such as races, swimming and 🐓“catching the rooster”🐓

In general, the 15th of August is celebrated by everyone in Greece!

This is why most people take vacations 🧳during August and visit🚗🚉✈️🚢🛳️ their families in the villages in the mainland or on the islands🏝️!

According to a Greek myth✍️, Daedalus and his son Icarus were imprisoned and wanted to escape.

Daedalus made wings 🕊️for both of them so that they can fly and set themselves free. However, Icarus flew very close to the sun🌞and the wax🕯️ from the feathers of his wings melted, as a result to fall into the sea🌊 and die…

This myth teaches us👨‍🏫👩‍🏫 an important lesson about the consequences of the unchecked desire and ambition.

To continue, Daedalus devastated😞of his son loss, he named the sea-spot: Icarian Sea and the closest island: Ikaria🏝️

Today, Ikaria is famous for its inhabitants’ longevity ♾️. Apparently the oldest people on the island are more than 100 years old and the reason why is mostly because of:

🥾lots of walking from hill to hill
💤frequent naps

Locals like to have a stress-free life😌 and for that they don’t rush and always take their time.

Usually the main town of a Greek Island is called 📣Chora. The same applies to Folegandros and Sikinos with the difference that Folegandros' Chora is the oldest 🏰medieval town in Cyclades.

This church works great for a small hike 🥾as it can be easily reached on foot if you take the paved path that starts from Chora🔝

Some Greek islands due to their location are better to reach from Türkiye🇹🇷. Therefore, we chose Bodrum as our starting point📍

Let’s begin our Greek island exploration🧭💚

✅Our means of transportation are:
by BOAT 🛥️ and MTB 🚲

✅Our island stops are:
Kos🏝️, Nisyros🏝️, Tilos🏝️, Chalki🏝️ and Symi🏝️

The best part of this trip is that we will ride our MTB through well-maintained trails but also through 💪NEW ones!

As we conquer hill to hill we stop to marvel at the breath-taking nature 🌿of these picturesque small islands!!!

Whenever possible our floating home 🛥️will make stops in secluded and dreamlike bays so that you can jump directly from the boat into the refreshing, blue sea 🪸🐚⚓️🌊

In the evenings 🌅you can take some relaxing walks and explore the unique harbour towns and villages of each island.
