This week Wictor Wallenius started his Political Affairs Internship at the embassy here in sunny Athens. Wictor will be here during the autumn as a part of his law degree at Lund University.

Σήμερα είναι η παραμονή του μεσοκαλόκαιρου στη Σουηδία, μια σημαντική γιορτή και μια από τις μεγαλύτερες μέρες του χρόνου – πάνω από 18 ώρες ηλιοφάνειας στη Στοκχόλμη, ενώ στη βόρεια Σουηδία, ο ήλιος δεν δύει!
Η μέρα γιορτάζεται με χορούς, γύρω από ένα στολισμένο στύλο και τραγουδώντας παραδοσιακά τραγούδια – ακόμα και ένα τραγούδι για βατράχια – φορώντας στεφάνια λουλουδιών στα μαλλιά.

“Making Waves: Growing the 🇸🇪 🇬🇷 Partnership” - Swedish National Day 2024

Over 350 guests celebrated the Swedish National Day on June 6 at the Swedish Residence in Athens.
Inspired by the fact that Posidonia, the world’s most prestigious shipping exhibition takes place in Athens, the Embassy of Sweden offered leading representatives of the Swedish maritime industry to showcase innovative solutions, services and products to the guests. A film with contributions from ABB, Alfa Laval, Atlas Copco, SKF and the Swedish Club pedagogically illustrated cutting edge Swedish marine technology.

In his national day address Ambassador Johan Borgstam underlined the historical ties between Sweden and Greece 🇸🇪🇬🇷. He thanked the Greek government and the Greek people for their support throughout the process of Swedish accession to NATO. The partnership between Sweden and Greece is stronger than ever, something that was also recently illustrated by the successful visit to Greece of Jessika Roswall, the Swedish Minister for European Union affairs. He emphasized the close collaboration between the Embassy and the Hellenic Swedish Business Chamber and the strong interest by Swedish companies in the Greek market.

Throughout the celebrations the guests also had the privilege of enjoying a live jazz performance by the Greek Swedish musician Tassos Spiliotopoulos and SEV Trio. The Swedish and the Greek national anthems were beautifully rendered in the respective languages by the soprano Jelena Jovanovic Bakopoulou.

Ambassador Johan Borgstam hosted a Business Breakfast with Minister of Health Adonis Georgiadis as guest of honour. Numerous leading Swedish companies in Greece participated. The Minister focused his presentation on the Greek government’s ambitious reform priorities for the health care sector. In the following discussion Minister Georgiadis also elaborated on regional issues, putting them in a geopolitical context.

High-level representatives from companies such as Intrum, Saracakis, Elekta, AstraZeneca, Tetra Pak, Hexicon and many more ensured the quality of the exchange. Trade promotion is a priority for the Embassy and the cooperation with the Hellenic-Swedish Chamber of Commerce, also present this morning, is deeply valuable.
