Today being April 24th, I would like to show this antique Armenian Sevan rug tells the story of a family tragically separated during the Armenian Genocide. Their mother cut the rug into two and gave one piece to each daughter. Unlike their mother, the sisters escaped death. One ended up in Beirut, the other in NYC. 50 years later, the sisters met in New York. The two pieces were united and so was their family. Presently the rug is on display at Megerian rugs in Yerevan, Armenia.

The beauty about sourcing the rugs ourselves is getting to know many different people and hearing stories.
The lady in the foto is now 87 years old. She wove this amazing kilim as a gift for her mom after she was able to finish high-school. Her parents used to have a rug store in a small village in Armenia. When I told her I am Armenian too she brought the rug down from her home and as she didn't have space to open it we put it on top of a car. Can you imagine? What kind of history each rug you get is carrying?

Another beauty about sourcing the rugs ourselves is that we can witness the whole process of a rug making and then we can talk to you about it.
Here you can see a silk on silk rug half made. Check how the weaver has set the loom, the silk threads tgich are running all thru the rug are ending being its tassels. More than 10 silk threads dyed with the natural way are next to the weaver. Each knott requires time and very skilled fingers. Then the weaver cuts the thread and changes the color. Aproximately a rug of this size (3*5 feet) takes at least 5-7 months to me made.

This is what the inside of a nomadic tent (yurt) looks like. Sourcing the rugs ourselves gives us the opportunity to witness how these people are still making rugs for functional needs. You can see that even the tent sticks are wrapped with a woven rug. Floor pillows, wall hangings, floor covers and decorative items.
