Today is Nala's and the packs big day... Today Fredo returns to the pack for a few days. It has been 4 or 5 years.. it really doesn't matter how many years ago ....what matters is Fredo and Nala grew up living in Guatemala City. They were surrendered to the foundation while we were building out a location in sumpago Guatemala. When they arrived we were working on top of avocado mountain building a location for my dog rescue they arrived in crates in the back of a pickup truck they arrived to a pack of eight other dogs and about 10 volunteers that were there to help us build houses and a clinic.
Fredo and Nala both were in shock they were both in stress mode when they arrived and the first night that they were with us they both tried to sleep in my tent with Cypress that did not go so well. It took 3 months to rehabilitate and train both of these dogs it took a lot of help from a lot of volunteers it took a lot of time and patience to allow them to grow within the pack of rescue dogs that we had at that time. Nala became my dog and Philip and Pamela who were volunteering at this time Made an insane decision while on vacation in El Salvador... they decided to return to Guatemala they decided to adopt Fredo today is a special day not only because Pamela and Philip are coming back but also bringing Fredo and their new adoptive dog Lily with them this is a huge moment. The last time Fredo was with us we had around 10 dogs and six or eight puppies before he left for Canada. Today we have the Pack Cypress, Nala, Dhuvra and Ms Ginny and Nemo and Dori. Much more to share later
Regardless of where your dog came from regardless of what it's been through chances are if you provide food love shelter together with routine that mentally and physically stimulates them 9 out of 10 dogs will be the best family dog...
For the other one dog that is in the family dog you can still provide a great life for that dog.

Queens has been waiting for help for years. Mans best has been waiting years and in 30 days after spending $75 million this shelter is already red flagged and already failed this community where it was supposed to be built to help!
The best city in the world I think not the best country in the world I think not!
How can this be true? It is not ! Neither is true! We continue to fail humans and we continue to fail man's best friend in every city in this country! It is Appalling! A complete failure from top to bottom! the ones who suffer the most are shelter dogs! Why is it so hard to change what is not working! No matter how much money cities put into shelters they fail!
They fail HARD they take down communities they shut their doors and the fighting begins on social media in backrooms, in private chats..
Enough already!
the only way to save shelters is for the shelters to give what the communities needs! HELP! Help with dog issues HELP After they RESCUE A BROken dog from your shelter help with training help with sick dogs that come out unhealthy to these shelters help with in home training and support! REAL support to help these same families that did you a FAVOR and adopted this broken bag of a dog!

GET volunteers in 24 hours a day 7 days a WEEK!
GET into the communities and give to them! Give them trainers give them food give them vets give them tools to succeed with your broken dog that you say is great with kids LIE Great with other DOGs LIE Great on a Leash LIE Great with all humans LIE STOP the lies and HELP be honest help them choose HELP them understand the 333 rules.
STOP ADOPTING DOGS like Sheppards and rottis, pittties , mals, huskies to a family that has never had a dog before!
AND PLEASE
STOP lying about the specific details about these dogs....
STOP taking that STUPID PHOTO under your sign that says adopted WE BOTH KNOW that dogs is coming back! DO that same photo or do a video in the NEW families HOME!

So you want a working dog but live in a small house in a town or you live in an apartment in the city. How do you mentally and physically stimulate your dog when you do not live on a farm? You run, you hike, you jog, you ride your bike with your dog.
You train and work your dog hard to burn and direct his or her energy in a way to both exhaust them and stimulates them. As a dog owner with a working dog you do this every day. You do this 2 or 3 times a day for hours or you do not get a working dog...

Our Roots
The Mayan Dog Rescue Foundation is a non-profit foundation based in Guatemala. In 2017 the first seed was planted by Steve Levine who seeks to address serious malnourishment, negative environmental changes, social and cultural issues; all caused by the lack of education. Steve is currently working on establishing and educational center that will connect to the root of the local people through open community gardens that will promote permaculture techniques, animal welfare and recycling. Connecting to the root, the seed, the fruit, the soil and the water.
