Pageants, reality shows, slimming pills advertisements… So many things in modern society lecture us what defines a woman’s beauty and what not. Urged to define their own beauty, three European artists Maddalena Fanfani, Van Lanigh and Yana Medow paints up to tear down the hypocrisy of mass media. Informed by pop-art, surrealism, fauvism movements, they use bold colours and hyperbolic shapes as a rebel yell: Who is there to decide the beauty of mine but myself!?

Streams Gallery proudly presents ‘Divine Feminine’ Group Exhibition at our gallery in Hong Kong.

We are pleased to present the solo exhibition ‘There is no place like home’ for Elang Sutajaya, an emerging Indonesian artist most known for the flying rabbits(‘The Aviators’) in his vibrant and cartoon-inspired paintings. Wearing the iconic aviator googles, the rabbits freely explore the world n different settings across time and space. You never know what is next.

In the lively and attention to details works from Elang, we see such soft and caring heart of the artist. It always made you feel like you have been attracted into the paintings, as you are experiencing the world of the Aviators. This time, with your friends and families.

As the year of rabbit is around the corner, Elang especially prepared a piece which tributes to this important holiday, sending best wishes and good fortune to people around the world.

Introducing our 1st artist of Intuitive Sense Group Show: Lee Salvador

Born in1983, Lee Salvador started his art career as a street artist and evolved in his craft and through the years explored other medium and focused on canvas.

During the journey, he had opened a window reconnecting with his childhood memories and started to embody it to his works.

Using acrylics, he uses rich, earthly tones to give his paintings a surreal atmosphere. In his paintings, his childhood past meets his contemporary state of mind and emotion. The characters in his paintings shows 2 faces with different emotions. This represents 2 sides of a coin. Through this, the artist is leaving the audience two perspective to look at.

Intuitive Sense Group Show is on view from November 26 to December 18 at Streams Gallery Hong Kong

Streams Gallery is delighted to present the Intuitive Sense Group Exhibition at our gallery in Hong Kong.

Intuition is a sense, so is art. How will brush tips flow, colors blend, mindset navigate, most of the times, we cannot explain, it may be just an instinct between seconds, and no right or wrong, good or bad, like or dislike, make sense or not. It is about how to convince your heart.

We are excited to present and showcase the artworks from Benzilla, Lee Salvador, Van Lanigh. Led them take you into a visual enjoyment and deep thoughts of the stories behind their art.

Often inspired by the chaos and the constant flow of information that the urban city is associated with, Revolue has developed recognisable personal style by adopting classical artistic approach, focusing on the observation of human behaviour and habits, in the past two decades.

Revolue usually experiments his ideas on paper before expressing them holistically on canvas. To him, sketches on paper is a completely free and expressive process. It’s the most direct way to express his mind and concepts, hence works on paper can provoke more emotional connection with the audience.

The three-eyed character in this series resonates with the concept of ‘Web3’. It explores metaverse and virtual reality in Revolue’s fresh and first person perspective.

Based on a fictional world where the beauty of the Japanese Edo period clashes with the power of present symbols of the modern world, this piece shows Mia in the iconic elements of both worlds, holding a ‘love’ gesture, which also echoes the Korean culture for its appearance at Kiaf SEOUL this year.

This piece was created using the Suibokuga Technique (Japanese:水墨画), which is a style of traditional painting characterised by simply using black ink and water. The monochromaticity, as a key characteristic of such technique, is reflected through precise and skilful brush strokes.

In terms of composition, Suibokuga requires the painter to eliminate unnecessary elements and to proficiently apply whiteness as the foundation of the piece. Similar to calligraphy, great attention is paid to minimalistic brush strokes and the amount of ink used, with the image coming out due to the strength and firmness of the lines.

Created by Clarence Ruth, an artist who constantly traverses the meaning of true self through painting, this artwork raises important questions on one’s virtual self-image in the digitalised world.

In this piece, Oreo the character is being partially himself and partially SpongeBob, in a bright blue background which represents optimism. Oreo, however, chooses to hide behind a friendly smiling face instead of completely revealing his real identity.

The composition, with the SpongeBob half intentionally being placed higher, reflects the modern time ideology that becoming popular overrides being genuine, especially on social media. This is a reflective piece of work for the audience to rethink the impacts of cyberspace place on their self-perception.

Maria Imaginário will showcase her playful take on emotional and sentiments through the distinctive visual style she has developed throughout her career. By applying her iconic colour palette, she transmits internal feelings brimming with meaning.

In this series of new works, she juxtaposes her signature personified figures with a surreal and dreamy style, turning her paintings into visual playgrounds for audience to think through the underlying messages and sensations.

A visual illustration of emotional insecurities one may have, this painting invites the audience to embrace challenges in life and have faith in the process of changing. Every obstacle will eventually be sorted out and one will celebrate the transformation with joy afterwards.

A new series of works advocating love and consciousness created by Benzilla will be making its first appearance in Kiaf SEOUL 2022.

In the past decade, Benzilla has been creating paintings, mural, art pieces and sculptures surrounding ‘LOOOK’, the figurative three-eyed character, which become iconic character in his art. Inspired by street art, pop culture, music, and science fiction, ‘LOOOK’ represents an alien who came from another universe and experiences the world with fresh eyes.

This particular new series show a certain shift in the artist’s practice, for the humanistic theme of love, protection and peace which echos with what has been happening in the world; and the composition of bright and pastel colours that lift up the audience by hinting hope and positivity. Also the skully surrounded in the background highlighted the art piece in whole.

In Japanese, the word 髪 (hair) is a homonym of 神 (god), since both of them share the same pronunciation かみ (kami). Inspired by the phonetical relationship of the two words, Maya Fuji reimagines the Japanese folklore belief that a woman's hair is interconnected to one's spirit, soul, and energy through this work.

The Japanese culture emphasises on the spiritual connection between the mind, body and nature. Making reference to such belief, the artist explores the cultural and historical significance of hair in Japan by painting strong women with flowing hair, while intertwining them with elements of traditional Ukiyo-e block prints and modern Japanese subcultures from the Heisei era.

Deeply rooted in contemporary urban culture, Zach Schrey creates an alternate reality of recognisable characters and designs wrapped in his signature biomorphic camouflage patterns. They remind the audience of the everyday, yet have an otherworldly presence because of their bold and clean aesthetic.

Influenced by the ubiquitous imagery of cartoons and comics, Zach Schrey’s work collectively pokes fun at these cultural icons, heightening our awareness of their superficiality, and at the same time, celebrating their immutability as a presence in our lives.

In his new series of works, Clarence Ruth transfigures his imaginative character, Oreo, into a portrait with four quadrants. While two quadrants are familiar Goofy characters, one remains as his evil alter-ego.

The reflection of one’s identity crisis has been a common theme in the artist’s works. Such narrative has been further conveyed through Oreo's past and present state.

Details of Oreo the character carry various symbolic meanings. His mask hides the reality of his true self. His Pinocchio-style nose represents lies told while wearing a mask and hiding.

Through the constant exploration, Oreo encounters when he meets other identities, both internal and external, there is growth, self-love, and unlocked potential.

Inspired by fictional character created by Shishidomia named Mia-a Japanese girl who time-travelled to the modern world from the Japanese Edo period, Shishidomia’s work is a unique combination of traditionalism and modernity.

By adopting wood board painting approach, the work is a perfect illustration of precision, simplicity, and colour movement. The high pigmented spray and acrylic colours awaken deep and joyful sensations; while the 24k gold leaf details draw cultural reference to the same practice wildly used 400 years ago. The typography at the back captures the artist’s thoughts during the creation process. The feelings and energy are not only communicated through the text itself, but also through its radiating colour and visual arrangement.
