On World Environment Day, we are highlighting the vital role agriculture plays in caring for our planet.

Nearly half of all habitable land is used for farming, motivating our support for sustainable agriculture that enhances biodiversity, conserves water, reduces pollution, and nourishes the soil. A decade ago, we launched our "Rooted in Nature" programme to promote sustainably and locally sourced food and beverages, which now spans 94 hotels worldwide. Through this initiative, our F&B teams source ingredients from local and environmentally responsible producers.

We also encourage hotels to set up on-site Chef's Farms, hydroponic systems and bee farms. These supports allow us to grow indigenous herbs and veggies, creating delicious seasonal dishes and supporting the local ecosystem.

As part of Shangri-La's commitment to hosting people to the colourful joys of life in a sustainable manner, we are delighted to introduce our new Triple S strategy. We are taking significant steps towards embedding sustainability throughout our operations and aligning our efforts with our business objectives through a three-pronged approach: Stay, Savour, and Shine. These areas encompass our rooms, food and beverage offerings, wellness initiatives and stakeholder engagement, aimed at fostering a brighter future for all.

We have begun implementing this strategy by providing recycle bins in our guestrooms, hotel lobby and Club Lounge, taking a step forward towards a more environmentally responsible and sustainable future.

We’ve implemented effective initiatives including water-saving shower heads, sensor-flushing cisterns and wastewater recovery systems from air conditioners, laundry, and other greywater sources. Six of our resorts, including those in Boracay, Cebu, and the Maldives, even transform ground or seawater into freshwater.

But it doesn't stop there! We also engage our guests in meaningful conservation experiences. Take Shangri-La Chengdu for example, with its 12-year partnership with the Dujiangyan Panda Saving and Disease Control Centre, not only do our colleagues volunteer there regularly, the hotel has donated a 1.6-hectare bamboo plantation and sponsors a panda kitchen. The guests can even book our Panda-Volunteer Room package for an unforgettable encounter with these adorable creatures and their bamboo forests! 🐼
