HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!

The modern holiday of Mother's Day was first celebrated in 1908, when Anna Jarvis held a memorial for her mother at St Andrew's Methodist Church in Grafton, West Virginia. Her campaign to make Mother's Day a recognized holiday in the United States began in 1905 but was not implemented until in 1911 all U.S. states observed the holiday. Ann Jarvis, Annas mother, had been a peace activist who cared for wounded soldiers on both sides of the American Civil War, and created Mother's Day Work Clubs to address public health issues. Anna Jarvis wanted to honor her mother by continuing the work she started and to set aside a day to honor all mothers because she believed a mother is "the person who has done more for you than anyone in the world".

Today, we should recognize more than ever the work, effort and dedication of all mothers around the world. With children unable to go to school due to the Covid-19 pandemic, parents working from home and many other related issues, this has brought additional burdens to mothers. TÊTE DE MOINE – CHEESE ENJOYMENT FROM THE CANTON OF JURA

At Swiss House Shop you can find not only the Tête de Moine cheese but also La Girolle, the appliance used for centuries to make the fine cheese rosettes.

The Tête de Moine, literally monk's head, is a cylindrical, semi-hard raw milk cheese with a weight of around 800 grams and a very fine batter that melts easily in the mouth. It is not cut, but turned into fine rosettes with a scraping device such as a Girolle or similar device. The surface of the cheese that comes into contact with air is increased by the scraping. On the one hand, this changes the structure of the cheese dough and, on the other hand, enables the full development of the aromatic, tender-melting taste.

Even the monks in Bellelay Monastery in today's Bernese Jura scraped their Tête de Moine with this high knife. According to tradition, the cheese was used as a means of payment for the monks as early as the 12th century.

Highlight of every cheese platter; The natural mountain milk gives the Tête the Moine its incomparable taste. It is produced in less than ten village cheese dairies in its region of origin in accordance with the strict specifications of the AOP specifications and maintained on spruce boards for at least two and a half months. Cheese connoisseurs appreciate the Tête de Moine as the crowning glory of the cheese platter, as an aperitif, for dessert or as a snack.

The history of Arrow started with the outbreak of WWI in 1914. The Romanian pharmacist Boris Dreiding flees his country to Switzerland with only the bare essentials in his suitcase – including a secret recipe of a special hand cream that penetrates the skin even faster than conventional ones. In the following years Dreiding continued to develop the recipe - until it was perfect in 1921: The Arrow hand cream with almond oil was born. Later the foot cream with menthol and the hand cream with allantoin were added. The secret recipe has been guarded by Tanja Dreiding Wallace, Boris' granddaughter, in recent years. She continued to run the family business in the fourth generation.

In 2016, the Dreidings handed over the company to Christian Dietrich, a long-time friend of the family. And he still has these real classic creams produced in Switzerland. So look forward to a quality hand cream so rich in history.

As the world reels from the coronavirus crisis, a beam of light is illuminating Switzerland's Matterhorn mountain with a message of hope. Every night from sunset, the 4,478-metre high national symbol is splashed with words and images to inspire solidarity as people face up to the alarming spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. The light projections, created by light artist Mr. Gerry Hofstetter, nearly 800 meters high, have been beamed for more than a week from four kilometers away onto the north and east faces of the mountain, which straddles Switzerland's southeastern border with Italy.

We have introduced FFP2 respirators in our product portfolio as of lately and hope that all people follow the social distancing and hygiene guidelines implemented to contain the further spread of the virus. We offer a range of natural hygiene products from Soglio in Switzerland and as of April 15, 2020 we will introduce ‘Arrow’ to Hong Kong. Arrow produces hand- and foot care lotions made in Switzerland. With all the disinfectants we are all using, our hands need some care once at home. You will receive a sample with each purchase made to keep your hands soft and moisturized.
