Asia is expected to be one of the most enticing regions for business investors over the next two decades. Long-term prospects remain positive, as developing Asian markets focus on consumer-class development, digital transformation, and rapid urbanisation.

🆙 These are the top five emerging markets in Asia by GDP in 2023:

🔸 China
China has been one of the world's fastest-growing economies, averaging over 10% during the last 30 years. The Chinese economy comprises government-owned enterprises, mixed-ownership businesses, and a vast private sector. China faces significant geopolitical, environmental, and ageing population challenges. However, it is expected to become an even more influential international player in the coming years. Already second in terms of nominal GDP, it is estimated to overtake the U.S. as the world's largest economy by 2028.

🔸 India
Now with the world’s largest population, India's economy has been growing steadily at comparatively high rates. It averaged 7.1% in the last decade, with occasional fluctuations caused by socio-economic challenges. India's growth rate is predicted to stabilise at 8% over the next few decades, thus making it the world's fastest-growing economy.

🔸 Indonesia
Indonesia's emerging market economy features rich and diverse natural resources, controlled inflation, political stability, and relatively developed financial systems. It is understandable why many business owners are enthusiastic about investing in a country with over 277 million people, GDP growth of around 5% per year, and a growing middle-class consumer market.

🔸 Thailand
Thailand has a robust and growing middle-class consumer market, with the private sector as the main growth engine. The economy is well integrated into the global market, with exports accounting for more than 70% of GDP. It also has a large industrial sector and a strong and growing services sector, mainly focused on tourism and finance. Thailand's government has plans for transforming the country into an innovative, value-based economy focusing on automation and robotics, biofuel and biochemicals, logistics, and digital.

🔸 Vietnam
Vietnam is one of the world's fastest-growing economies due to a shift in labour allocation from agriculture to manufacturing and services. Private investment, robust tourism, rising earnings, and increased urbanisation have contributed to Vietnam's development. Even though Vietnam's GDP growth is expected to slow from 2021 to 2040 compared to the previous decades, the country's economy is well-positioned to remain a strong performer.

The Australia-China Innovative Life Sciences Roadshow wraps up today, marking three impactful events in China.

In response to the increasing development of the pharmaceutical landscape, Acclime collaborated with leading Australian clinical research organisations to support the international growth and expansion of Chinese life science companies into Australia. This dynamic partnership unfolded as part of the Australia-China Innovative Life Sciences Roadshow.

The roadshow was held from 14-18 September 2023 across key locations in the Greater Bay Area, including Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and Southwest China, Chengdu. These events effectively bridged the gap between Chinese life science companies and pertinent Australian government agencies, fostering collaborative opportunities and facilitating commercialisation ventures in the Australian market.

Along with Acclime, the event organisers were: Austrade (The Australian Trade and Investment Commission), the Victorian Government, 360biolabs (a BioAgilytix company), George Clinical, and Nucleus Network. The support from key Chinese stakeholders, including GZHT Technology, the Party Committee of Guanlan Street's Life and Health Industry Chain, Silver Star Group, and Guangzhou International Bio Island, further underscored the significance of this endeavour.

Luis Silva, Acclime's Regional Business Development Manager, shared invaluable insights into how Acclime can assist Chinese life science companies with creating corporate entities and conducting clinical trials in Australia. His presentation also shed light on accessing the government's R&D tax incentive program and identifying strategic partners for product sales and distribution across the Australian territories.

These events signify a pivotal milestone, as they mark the first post-pandemic offline gatherings in China’s Greater Bay Area. They provided a unique opportunity for face-to-face interactions and knowledge exchange among industry professionals and stakeholders.

Acclime eagerly anticipates the prospect of meeting you at our next event, as we continue to facilitate innovative partnerships and international collaborations in the dynamic life sciences landscape.

Stay tuned for more exciting developments! 🌏🤝

Doing Business In Asia: Common Challenges & Misconceptions | Acclime 20/05/2023

Another common challenge for companies doing business in Asia is complying with monthly, quarterly, and/or annual regulations, which vary from market to market.

The most common requirements are monthly or quarterly VAT/GST filings with the local tax authorities and annual tax return filing.

While some countries, such as Cambodia and Indonesia, require monthly income tax statement filings, others, like China, only require quarterly filings.

However, all countries in Asia require the preparation of annual accounts. In some countries, such as China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam, all companies must also audit their accounts annually. In other countries, such as Singapore and Cambodia, an audit is only required if the company is of sufficient size. Filing an annual return with the corporate regulator is also required in many jurisdictions across Asia.

Emerging Asia, including China, Cambodia, Indonesia, the Philippines, India, Thailand, Vietnam, and Malaysia, is set to remain one of the most attractive emerging market regions over the next two decades. This is due to their favourable demographic profile, strong consumer class development, digital transformation, rapid urbanisation, and technological adoption.

Emerging markets in Asia have outpaced other emerging economies, with India, China, Cambodia, and Vietnam experiencing an annual average of real GDP growth of more than 6% between 2000 and 2020. While the region still has a long way to go to catch up with established countries, we believe that the long-term prospects for developing Asian markets will remain positive as they focus on rebuilding, modernising, and regaining their growth momentum.
