[Our new website is launched!]
www.domat.hk
It is a webpage featuring the sense of "work in progress".

It may look a bit amateur, and a bit different from a usual company webpage.

We are not outsourcing the whole website to experts to make it look perfect. In it, you may find a lot of imperfections that need to be touched up. The idea is that we would be touching up day by day, little by little to refine and improve. The original website was built by Dreamweaver - a very old system that has its own character.

To design something is to fundamentally question how it is made. - This is one of the ethos of Domat.

An architectural photo becomes amusing when you see people enjoying the space. The users' expression is something that could not be staged, and is the most rewarding for us, especially when we were unable to go to the site to see it in use.

We will be sharing on the coming Friday with a small group of architects in Hong Kong and New York for AIA - Citizen Architect.

At this event, a small group of young professionals from New York City and Hong Kong will present their architectural firms and enter into dialogue with one another.

Each practice shares the desire to redefine the role of the architect working within the public realm and to find innovative ways to design for communities, engage the wider audience and raise awareness of pressing issues in their respective cities. The projects presented will demonstrate various methods of engaging with a wide range of constituents while establishing alliances with both commercial and non-commercial partners to build institutions with a broad public purpose.

The event will be hosted simultaneously by the AIA NY Global Dialogues Committee and by AIA Hong Kong, and will be moderated by Grace Liao of KPF New York and Nicolas Medrano of SOM Hong Kong.

This event is generously sponsored by Anteric Group.

Date: 13.10.2022(Thu)
Time: 6:30pm –8:00pm

Synopsis:
The rise of sub-divided housing in Hong Kong in the decade is explained by rising housing demand at the lower end of the distribution. Why has demand increased? Why has the supply response been so sluggish? Is this a failure of the market or government? Can it be solved and how? What will rent control of sub-divided housing achieve? These questions will be discussed in the presentation.

Thanks to all NGOs, volunteers and families who have contributed a huge effort to the project. It has involved 100s of people and is really a collective effort. Thanks to our donors for supporting the work and 香港社區組織協會 Society for Community Organization for their faith in us from the start of the project.

The award is very important to raise the awareness of the affordable housing crisis that we are facing in Hong Kong. We hope the award can bring more attention to the housing situation and help to refocus the discussion of housing on humanistic and spatial quality which is essential to living. We also hope that more architects could reach the inaccessible communities to make sustainable life for all.
