“茶餐廳是中西飲食文化交匯點。遠近馳名的港式奶茶、酥香蛋撻或是菠蘿油，都融合了廣東與英國的獨特餐點精粹。早於1950年代，在炎夏辛勤工作了一整天的工人都喜歡到「冰室」（茶餐廳前身）避暑，坐在風扇下一邊吹着涼風，一邊喝杯凍飲，享受他們忙裡偷閑的時光。而當年因為食肆牌照規管嚴格，冰室多數只能提供一些飲品及不需烹調的簡單小食，內裡的裝潢也充滿懷舊感：花磚地板、慢悠悠的天花風扇和低垂的掛燈，記錄着老香港情懷。

時至今日，冰室已演變成現代茶餐廳，除了特色凍飲外，同時供應飯麵小炒，這些成為了香港茶餐廳代表菜式。” 來自香港旅遊發展局

“Cha chaan teng (or ‘tea restaurant’) cuisine is the epitome of Hong Kong’s East-meets-West culture. The famous Hong Kong-style milk tea, creamy, flaky egg tarts and buttery pineapple buns are just some of the unique Chinese and Western fusion comfort foods you can find at these local cafes and diners.

It all goes back to the sultry summers of the 1950s, when an icy drink enjoyed under the ceiling fans in a bing sutt — the predecessor of cha chaan tengs — was a treat for workers after a long day. Due to the strict licensing requirements of the time, local cafes only served drinks and simple dishes that did not require cooking (hence the name bing sutt, which means ‘ice room’). They are recognisable by their patterned floor tiles, slow-spinning ceiling fans, and low-hanging lampshades.

Bing sutts have since evolved into the modern-day cha chaan teng, still serving classic icy beverages, but also noodle and rice dishes that are now beloved meals across the city. ” said Hong Kong Tourism Board

On 20 December 2023, DITP HK attended a meeting with Soravit Hotels Group (www.soravithotels.com) together with a site visit to both hotels under the group, namely as: Soravit on Granville Road (www.soravitgranville.com) and Attitude Granville (www.attitudegranville.com). Both facilities are situated in the heart of Tsim Sha Tsui area, Kowloon.

Soravit on Granville is the only boutique hotel in Hong Kong elegantly decorated with authentic Thai interior designs and artwork, providing 76 guest rooms. On the other hand, Attitude Granville is a hip and trendy hotel featuring a total of 81 guest rooms under the theme of old Hong Kong.l

An inflatable giant yellow rubber duck that floated in Hong Kong’s Victoria Harbour a decade ago will return to greet everyone in the city real soon! It has grown a lot and is bringing a friend!

The two yellow rubber ducks are 18 meters tall and are getting water-tested at a dockyard in Tsing Yi this morning before they are towed off to Victoria Harbour in a week. Sources familiar with the arrangement said more details will be announced later.
