Some describe it as bliss, some feel as though they are floating outside or disconnected from their physical body, Theta is the most important sleep state for the rejuvenation of the brain, removal of its toxins and waste, and the deletion of unnecessary sensory input. Walking beaches that appear magically when the tide recedes leaving miles of fine sand, listening to the refreshing summer rains pattering on the roof and the simple pleasure of tending my pine grove. Tipping Point
Malcolm Gladwell describes a tipping point as ‘the magic moment when an idea, trend or social behavior crosses a threshold and spreads like wildfire’. I invite all sound practitioners and meditators to set the intention of ‘world peace’ for all new and full moon events. We have the capacity, skills and resources to shift human consciousness towards positivity and optimism on a global scale. It all starts by looking in the mirror and taking that first step.

Stroke!
Dragon boat festival is one of my favourites. The exciting and colourful races with thrilling nail biting finishes leave thousands of spectators on the edge of their seats. In level 1 gong training we practice gong strokes is our version of shore based dragon boat training. Great for upper body strength conditioning with a back massage to boot.

Hum, Ho, Hug - Here are a few simple techniques to pump those happy hormones for mental health awareness month.

Humming, laughter yoga (ho, ho, ho) and hugs all stimulate the release of endorphins and “happy” hormones like dopamine and serotonin resulting in a better mood, reduced pain, lower blood pressure, a stronger immune system, lower stress levels and rates of depression. Hugging for 20 sec is particularly beneficial. So start now and lets shift those statistics on mental health.

The rapid beating of bees wings creates a steady hum. In music we create a similar sound either with electric synthesizers or by repeatedly striking our gongs. Droning is one of my 'go to' gong techniques to quickly induce a mesmerizing and meditative state. Droning stimulates relaxation and stress relief, improves focus and increases creativity - especially useful for stress, anxiety and depression.

Anticipation
With building anticipation I waited impatiently for the last seven nights. My Queen of the Night generated a small hairy bud as an appendage off the edge of a leaf a week ago and since then I have gone to bed each night on tenterhooks. At 2200 a gentle perfume wafted into my lounge and I was presented with this flower in all its glory. Gazing at a rare flower is just one of nature’s ways to share indescribable perfection. Who can’t help but feel a lifting of hearts?

Before dawn the forest erupts in sound. ‘why’?
Because there is less background noise and so sound carries around 20 x further than during the day. Birds sing when there are no predators. As humans evolved we subconsciously relate bird songs with safety. This is why we feel relaxed and at peace when we hear it. This week I invite you to open your windows and allow their song to uplift your heart and invite you to join them in singing for joy.

The Duality of the Two-Headed Snake.
Unlike its one-headed cousin, the two-headed snake combines opposing energies and provides insight into dualities. The twin heads represent yin-yang, light-dark, spirit-matter and other dichotomies found throughout nature.

Wishes do come true
