Welcome back, and welcome new FinTech students! Our Experiential Learning Program for MSc Fintech students was a resounding success. Our students embraced challenges, collaborated with fellows, and honed their problem-solving abilities through a series of team building exercises and collaborative games. They gained practical skills including leadership, teamwork and communication, which let them prepare to thrive in the dynamic landscape of fintech.

Industry Project Masters Network (IPMN), officially launched in September 2022, is a new talent development scheme introduced by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA). The scheme provides opportunities for postgraduate students to work on real-life fintech projects, gain hands-on experience and valuable insights from project leaders and mentors with different financial backgrounds.

We are honoured to have 13 groups of HKUST MSc FinTech students worked on Fintech projects with various authorized institutions and banks including Tencent, HSBC, Bank of China (Hong Kong), etc. in 2022-23.

A certificate is issued to the student upon completion of the project to recognize his/her participation.

Student exchange program is back in Spring 2023!

Two exchange-in students from ESSEC Business School & CentraleSupélec find the studies in HKUST MSc FinTech rewarding and invaluable.

Three MSc FinTech students had their first travel to France and studied at ESSEC Business School & CentraleSupélec. The exchange-out study provides an opportunity to broaden their perspectives, gain a better understanding of different cultures, enhance the academic skills and knowledge, and develop a global network, which would benefit for the students’ future career development and personal growth.

Professor Shiqing LING, Chair Professor of Mathematics and Academic Director of MSc FinTech, was conferred the title “RGC Senior Research Fellow” in 2022. The RGC Senior Research Fellow Scheme aims to provide sustained support and relief from teaching and administrative duties to exceptionally outstanding researchers at Associate Professor rank (or full Professor rank) at UGC-funded universities in Hong Kong, with a view to facilitating their full dedication to research and development and helping universities attract and retain research talent. As the Senior Research Fellow Scheme awardee, Professor LING receives a fellowship grant at around HK$7.8 million over a period of 60 months.

Congratulations to the HKUST MScFinTech Program team “𝙁𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙀𝙖𝙨𝙮” for winning the 1𝙨𝙩 𝙍𝙪𝙣𝙣𝙚𝙧-𝙪𝙥 award in the “Hong Kong Techathon 2021” under the theme of AI & FinTech! 🏆

The 7-day virtual challenge co-organized by the Hong Kong Science Park and 6 other local Universities, participants had the chance to initiate business solutions related to New Generation Technology, AI & FinTech, Smart City or Social Impact & Health Tech. Over the span of a week, participants worked collaboratively come up with innovative ideas and prototypes to pitch the seed fund and incubation support.
