Medium to deep, dark virtually opaque ruby red. Quite meaty aromas with intense dark black-fruit. Palate is structured with slightly over-ripe black fruit notes & some earthy character. The finish is closed up by gripping tannins. Alcohol seems high, acidity is fairly balanced & there is fair length.

Chateau d'Yquem 2003
This year was strongly marked by hot weather starting in mid-May, building up to record temperatures in August. The summer of 2003 was totally outside the norm. 35 mm of rain in early September brought on an overwhelming and all-encompassing attack of botrytis that resulted in a unique phenomenon: the entire crop was picked in one single pass! The wine is as elegant as it is atypical. It is said that this vintage is reminiscent of the conditions that led to the making of the first ever botrytised wines in Sauternes. Chateau d'Yquem 1996
The weather was hot and dry throughout much of the growing season, except for 2 weeks of unexpectedly cool temperatures in September that made for the ideal ripening of grapes that were already in superb condition. Rain arrived at just the right time and soon after it was time to harvest a very homogeneous crop. This textbook vintage epitomises Yquem's balance, elegance, and sheer class!

Ch Haut Briom 2014
2014 was marked by an extraordinary Indian summer that saved the vintage. Fine spring weather was conducive to a good start to the growing season. However, challenging summer conditions seriously slowed down ripening. Fortunately, the month of September was absolutely beautiful, with dry, extremely sunny weather accompanied by highs of close to 30°C. This superb weather, with cool night-time temperatures, enabled the grapes to ripen beautifully, and they were able to be brought into the vat house having reached a perfect level of ripeness.

Ch Margaux 2012
A cold winter, especially in February, was followed by a very wet spring, then a very dry summer before a return to rainy weather as from September 20th. The heavy rain which lasted until July 15th, created very favourable conditions for the development of mildew. From July 15th onwards, the weather was dry and moderately warm but punctuated by a few very hot days. Such conditions are typical of great Bordeaux classic vintages: they allow for the simultaneous ripening and concentration of the grapes. Only the less good terroirs and young vines suffered from the sudden transition from a very wet spring to a very dry summer. The weather changed again from the first day of autumn: the moderate rains, which fell regularly from September 20th onwards, arrived too late to greatly upset the ripening or health of the grapes, but probably prevented, by a few days, 2012 from being the great vintage it should have been.

Ch Beychevelle 2006
The 2005-2006 season was marked by a return to precipitation levels more in keeping with the thirty year average. Temperatures were slightly lower than average, but nevertheless high compared to the past three decades. Becoming widespread in the first week of April, bud burst was even and followed the normal pattern for various grape varieties. Peak véraison occurred on the 10th of August. This was very regular and among the earliest in recent years.

Ch Beychevelle 2003
2003 was marked by temperatures higher than average for the thirty-year period with a heat wave in the first half of August reaching 38/40° C. Overall rainfall seem low, but well distributed throughout the season, which helped to protect the vines from drought and heat. The first bunches were seen on the Merlot from 1st April onwards, followed by the Cabernet Sauvignon a few days later. The Merlot began to flower on 12th May, the Cabernet Sauvignon around 20th May, which was about a week earlier than the previous vintage. Flowering took place in good conditions. Veraison took place around 10th July, about a fortnight earlier than 2002. The very violent storm on 15th July damaged a large part of the vineyard, between 6% and 12%. Milder temperatures during the last half of September were very helpful in bringing about a successful final maturation, mainly for the Cabernet Sauvignon.

Chateau Mouton Rothschild Pauillac 2009
Nature was particularly kind in 2009, providing conditions that favoured the vegetation cycle and helped the grapes to reach full maturity. Winter was a little colder than usual, though in the period to March the region had 204 hours of sunshine more than the average for the last thirty years. April was very wet and May often stormy. Flowering took place rapidly and evenly around 5 June. Summer set in from mid-June, bringing remarkable levels of sunshine and little rainfall. The very fine weather and high level of hydric stress, barely alleviated by a few showers, enabled the grapes to ripen slowly to full maturity. Temperatures in August were 1.4° C higher than the average. The ideal weather continued into September as cool nights alternated with hot days. The weather, encouraging the concentration of aromas and flavours and the accumulation of anthocyans, brought the crop to harvest in perfect condition.

Chateau Lafite Rothschild - Pauillac 2009
The beginning of the growth cycle was a tricky period due to a rather warm, very wet spring. The teams had to be particularly vigilant in order to protect the vines. Fine, stable weather returned in June and continued throughout the summer. In fact conditions became drought like, interspersed in July, August and September with welcome periods of light rain. Plenty of sunshine, with temperatures that were high without becoming scorching, and fairly cool nights enabled slow ripening that pushed the start of the harvests back to the end of September. Exceptionally favourable weather conditions, crowned by harvests in the sun, made for a vintage that was certain to be outstanding.

ALTER EGO de Palmer 2005
No one in France can remember drought conditions of such magnitude over such a long period (57% less rainfall than usual), although temperatures were never as high as during the 2003 heat wave. We carefully removed all the suckers – twice – as well as the side shoots in order to help the vines cope with reduced water consumption. This led to perfectly well-nourished grapes. After excellent flowering in early June, summer was excessively dry. Just like many other great vintages, this called a halt to premature growth. Drought conditions had two major effects on the fruit: - small berries, meaning very low yields - gradual concentration of flavour compounds in the grapes, very promising in terms of quality. The grapes slowly reached phenolic maturity after a few showers in early September. Picking began on 22nd September in plots of Merlot. The grapes were impressively ripe and healthy.
