All life on Earth relies on a healthy ocean. Coral reefs alone support 25% of all ocean life and almost a billion people with food and income! ... but they're facing complete collapse, it's an indicator the ocean is at a tipping point.
Today on Earth Day let's take the opportunity to do one thing good for our oceans! Here are 10 ways you can help protect our coral reefs and oceans:
1. Conserve Water - use less water so excess runoff and wastewater will not flow into the ocean.
2. Reduce Pollutants - choose nontoxic chemicals and dispose of herbicides, pesticides, and clean products properly.
3. Reduce Waste - cut down on what you throw away.
4. Shop Wisely - choose sustainable seafood, but less plastic and bring reusable bags.
5. Reduce Vehicle Pollution - use fuel-efficient vehicles, carpool or ride a bike, when you can.
6. Use Less Energy - choose energy-efficient light bulbs and don't overset your thermostat.
7. Fish Responsibly - follow "catch and release" practices and keep more fish alive.
8. Practice Safe Boating - anchor in sandy areas far from coral and sea grasses. Adhere to "no wake" zones.
9. Respect Habitat - healthy habitat and survival go hand in hand. Treat with care.
10. Volunteer - volunteer for beach cleanups at the beach and in your community. You can get involved in protecting your watershed too!
Let's try and do what we can and all work together for a healthier ocean!

Wow. What an amazing experience the last 8 weeks have been... Covid restrictions at home had me so lost it was finally the push I needed to follow my dreams. When deciding where to do my Divemaster course, it was hard to find destinations that were taking new travellers (understandable) but somehow the cards fell in the right hands and dealt me this paradise island of Roatan. I fell in love with it, from all sides, land and sea. The marine life is so extensive, the reef wall takes my breath away on every dive, I’ll never get bored of it.
A Divemaster certification is my first step towards a future in diving. Combining my marketing and diving skills will hopefully give me the step up I need to make myself stand out in this exciting new industry.
Thanks for all the encouragement along the way from my family and friends. Love you allll. Here’s my big forehead on my PRO certification card!!!
Extra thanks to my course director and dive shop!! Vasco Ferreira & Cayuco Reef Divers
... now let’s figure out this COVID mess so we can all go diving together!! 🎉🧜♀️🤿👌💙💚
