SAPPK 2024 Webinar 5th session!

Energy-efficient building design cannot be actualized into a real building without appropriate, sometimes high-performance, building materials. As the need for energy-efficient buildings increases, so does the demand for effective building materials. However, not all materials for supposedly sustainable buildings are themselves sustainable. Thus, research and innovation in sustainable building materials are advancing rapidly. This rapid change sometimes makes it hard for architects to catch up with the technologies, although they are the ones who can implement the technologies into buildings. This webinar aims to introduce architects, planners, and other built environment stakeholders in SAPPD ITB to current developments and the research maps of sustainable material technologies.

-The Green Belt: A Fusion of Nature and Innovation-

Situated in the vibrant heart of Vikki, Helsinki, The Green Belt emerges as a pioneering architectural marvel, seamlessly blending into the surrounding ecosystem while embodying sustainable living principles. Inspired by the rich tapestry of its surroundings, this project serves as a bridge between the esteemed Vikki Science Park and the environmentally conscious Eco-Vikki Residential Complex.

Drawing inspiration from the symbiotic relationship between nature and urbanity, The Green Belt stands as a testament to innovative design thinking and ecological responsibility. Leveraging the circular axis of the site, the architectural concept revolves around four key principles: AXIS, BEND, LIFT, and SLICE.

The AXIS principle, informed by the circular flow of the site and the adjacent building's curve, organises the main massing into two parallel horizontal structures. This orientation not only enhances passive cooling measures but also fosters a seamless connection with the surrounding landscape. Meanwhile, the BEND principle gracefully moulds the north mass, embracing the site's contours with a gentle curvature that harmonises with the existing environment.

In essence, The Green Belt transcends the boundaries of conventional architecture, weaving together nature-inspired aesthetics, sustainable innovation, and community-centric design. As a symbol of Helsinki's commitment to a greener, more inclusive future, it stands as a beacon of hope and inspiration for generations to come.

Agrinova is a community learning center in Penajam Paser Utara, East Kalimantan. It is an educational building that aims to empower the local residents to be able to compete in Indonesia’s future capital city, IKN, by focusing on local expertise: agriculture and fishery. Tumpukan buku telah menjadi identitas yang melekat dibalik nama Palasari. Buku-buku ini disusun dalam rak yang berjajar di dalam deretan kios. Sayang, jika buku-buku itu semakin dilupakan oleh orang-orang karena pengalaman belanja di Palasari yang seringkali kurang menyenangkan. Apalagi kondisinya yang berada di lokasi strategis, Palasari memiliki nilai lahan yang sangat tinggi untuk dimanfaatkan. Maka konsep Mixed Use adalah solusi yang ditawarkan untuk meningkatkan nilai ekonomi pasar eksisting, sambil menambah fungsi hunian yang sangat dibutuhkan oleh wilayah tersebut.

Secara program dan kualitas ruang, diciptakan bentuk pasar buku yang terintegrasi pengelolaannya. Hal ini menghubungkan penjual untuk meningkatkan pendapatan bersama. Dilakukan dengan penyediaan katalog bersama. Partisipasi dalam promosi bersama didukung estetika ruang memperkuat daya tarik pasar. Rancangan ini dilengkapi perpustakaan, ruang belajar, dan menciptakan hunian.

Juara 3 Sayembara Nasional pada Archiray X 2024: Net-Zero Living Residence yang diselenggarakan oleh Universitas Hasanuddin

Blok Reklaima merupakan bangunan hunian yang terletak di Pulau Lae Lae, Makassar, Sulawesi Selatan. Blok yang artinya modular, sedangkan Reklaima yang artinya mendaur ulang. Bangunan ini dirancang dengan konsep Net Zero Energy dan Net Zero Carbon dengan penerapan konsep modular, penggunaan energi terbarukan, rainwater harvesting, passive design, keberlanjutan ekonomi, serta pemilihan material rendah karbon dan material recycle.

LuminaHaus
LuminaHaus was designed with a focus on energy, environmental, and economic sustainability.
This residence creates a cool environment by optimizing natural ventilation and using solar reflective paint to prevent excess heat. Efficient rainwater management and the use of solar panels are solutions to energy saving issues. Economic Sustainability Concept is also encouraged to occur by using the urban farming concept, as well as selecting fast and affordable construction materials. This vertical growing house concept also creates an adaptive and sustainable residential environment.

Congratulations also for the opportunity to collaborate with Pak Yu Sing to realize the Solar Reflective House in BeCool village in the Kampung Tipar area, Padalarang, West Bandung Regency (across from the Akanoma architecture studio).

As a postcolonial country, Indonesia has some characteristics that are legacy of colonialism, subconsciously embedded in the country’s social, cultural, political and economic system. With these lingering effects of colonialism persisting, researchers need to develop certain critical thinking and perspectives in looking at the phenomena happening in the country. This is where postcolonial studies gain significance, as they lend a lens to understanding the complexity of the palimpsest of Indonesia’s current reality.

So, what is postcolonial studies, and what does it bring to the discourse in Indonesia? What are the critical points of postcolonial studies that are crucial in doing research in and about Indonesia? Who are the key figures that we can refer to in postcolonial study literature? And what is the risk if we omit this discourse in our research?
