The celebration of Galungan is identical with the Penjor that pretiffy the roads on all across Balil. In this modern age, the Bali island is often highlighted as a beautiful and religious island. Penjor is a bamboo that decorated in such a way according to Tradition in local Balinese community. See my previous post about explanation about Penjor.
In this short article. I hopefully you can interpret the history of Galungan and Kuningan deeply, not just enjoy the scenery, but understand its meaning as well.
Galungan day is where Balinese Hindus commemorate the creation of the universe along with the entire contents. As well as celebrating the victory of Goodness (dharma) against evil (adharma). As a gratitude, Hindus Give And do offerings to The Divine God - Ida Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa and The other Deities (with all of His Manifestations)
Galungan word is Taken From Ancient Javanese language that mean “Fight". Also commonly called "Dungulan" that means win. Differences mention wuku Galungan (in Java) with wuku Dungulan (in Bali) is synonymous, namely the eleventh Wuku. Wuku is balinese week names, it consist of 30 different names in 30 different weeks.
From the ceremony side, this is a moment to rremind Balinese Hindus from the spiritual and ritual side to always Fight Adharma And maintain Dharma. It could be concluded that the essence Galungan Celebration is to unite the spiritual strength that Hindus get enlightenment on attitude(body) and thought(soul), which is that is an existence of Dharma in human itself.
In conclusion, the fundamental of Galungan is a celebration of the triumph of dharma against Adharma. The merging of Body & Soul enlightenment is the form of Dharma in ourself. While the chaos of thoughts it’s represent of Adharma.
