Apa yang dimaksud dengan “Repeater Cable System”?

Sistem kabel bawah laut repeater, juga dikenal sebagai “Repeater Cable System”, adalah jenis infrastruktur sistem komunikasi kabel laut (SKKL) yang menggunakan repeater untuk mengirimkan data dalam jarak jauh di dasar laut. Kabel ini dirancang khusus untuk membawa lalu lintas telekomunikasi berkecepatan tinggi, seperti data internet, panggilan telepon, dan komunikasi digital lainnya.

Tujuan utama penggunaan repeater dalam konteks ini adalah untuk memperkuat dan meregenerasi sinyal optik saat transmisi data melakukan perjalanan melalui bentangan kabel yang panjang. Sinyal optik yang digunakan untuk mentransmisikan data dalam kabel serat optik modern, dapat mengalami pelemahan (kehilangan kekuatan sinyal) saat menempuh jarak lebih dari 400km. Penempatan repeater diletakan secara strategis di sepanjang kabel untuk mengatasi terjadinya kehilangan sinyal, memastikan bahwa data dapat mencapai tujuannya secara optimal dengan degradasi minimal.

SKKL memainkan peran penting dalam infrastruktur komunikasi global dan memungkinkan koneksi internet berkecepatan tinggi yang andal antar negara dan benua. Karena menyediakan kapasitas data yang sangat tinggi dengan latensi yang jauh lebih rendah dibandingkan sistem komunikasi berbasis satelit.

BTI Cable System menempatkan satu repeater setiap 120km sepanjang bentangan 4,700km. Artinya ada sebanyak 39 repeater yang digunakan untuk mengantar 576 Tbps dari Batam - Tanjung Pakis - Manado dengan branching unit (BU) Jambi - Gresik - Balikpapan - Makassar.

Today, the U.S. Trade and Development Agency awarded a grant to Indonesian company PT Super Sistem Data (Super Sistem) for a feasibility study to support the development of a domestic subsea fiber optic cable system that will add critical broadband internet capacity in remote and underserved areas of Indonesia. Super Sistem selected Florida-based APTelecom to conduct the study.
