Desa Laguna Regenerative Village Resort
Just 74 minutes from Jakarta, this 'paradise amongst tropical waters' is one of a kind.
Halfway between camping and staying at an eco resort, Desa Laguna is a gorgeous tropical island surrounded by aquamarine lagoons.
Are you in Jakarta over the holidays? Or know someone who is and might be looking for a nice short escape from the city? During the next two weeks, Desa Laguna still has availability and we’d love to host you 🥰
We’ve decorated our mangrove tree to reflect the Christmas spirit🎄and we’re preparing to plant many mangroves 🌱 and baby corals 🪸 over New Years to begin 2024 in a regenerative way. On New Years eve we’ll light candles🕯️, have sparklers for kids, sparkling wine for adults 🥂 have a bonfire 🔥 set up our screen and projector and a small sound system for those who wish to sing in the new year 🎶 We have also prepared a small fireworks set 🎆
This time of year can be a little overcast, but it’s also been sunny with blue skies 🌤️ The weather forecast is predicting calm seas for the next 10 days, which is unusual for this time of year!
As an added bonus, if you’re working in education, sustainability, or in a social enterprise, or if you’ve stayed at Desa Laguna before, we’re offering a very special rate for the next 5 weeks - Rp. 470,000 off our published rates per night, per person ✊🏼 When booking, just let us know what you do, or let us know when you last stayed at Desa Laguna.
On behalf of our team, a very heartfelt thank you to all of our guests and supporters in 2023, and wishing you all happy holidays, Merry Christmas for those who celebrate it, and a regenerative and peaceful start to 2024! ❤️
🌴
On this very special evening, we’re excited to introduce our co-founder and the man who has so generously made Desa Laguna possible for all of us. Today is his 70th birthday, and if you know him, know of him, or have visited Desa Laguna and enjoyed your experience, please join us in wishing him the happiest of birthdays 🥰 If it wasn't for the legendary Youk Tanzil, Desa Laguna would not exist, and we are eternally grateful 🙏
As someone who loves Indonesia passionately, and someone who has dedicated a recent chapter of his rich life to creating a documentary about one of Indonesia’s most inspiring eco-villages, we couldn’t have found a better partner for our post-Macan venture. For more than a decade, Pak Youk has been dedicated to showcasing the incredible wealth of this vast archipelago - her natural riches and cultural heritage - through a TV show called Ring of Fire Adventure.
At 70, Pak Youk is an inspiration for our team, riding motorcycles cross country making new friends and visiting old ones, helping people when the opportunity arises, and exploring the beauty of the archipelago. A big part of our vision and mission at Desa Laguna is inspiring each other to live a good life, and a critical part of that is discovering your purpose, loving your work, and leaving the world a little better for the next generations. Pak Youk embodies this vision, and is an inspiring example of living the good life 🙌
For many of you who have been to Desa Laguna or interacted with our team over the past year, you will have met or chatted with his lovely wife, Bu Andini. She is also an inspiration and our main partner, but we'll save the post about her for another time 😊
Thank you, Pak Youk, for trusting our team with taking care of your beautiful island, for inviting us to co-steward this magical place, and for collaborating with us towards making Desa Laguna one of Indonesia's many gems 🏝✨
From our wider Desa Laguna family, a very happy birthday to you, Pak 🥳
Desa Laguna would not be the same experience or place without our loving team 🥰 We are incredibly grateful to our team for taking such good care of the island, each other, and our guests. At the core of regeneration is a deep love for humanity and nature, and this is expressed in the way we treat nature, each other, and our visitors.
When you're ready to escape the city for a little re-charge, come and get a taste of what regeneration feels like. The warmth of the sun, the freshness of the clean winds, the distant rumble of the thunder, the feeling of soft sand under your feet, and the deep re-charge one gets from swimming in the open sea 🌊 Beyond this, it is the caring nature of our team, and the joy we get from being of service.
While we are technically still in the monsoon season / musim angin barat, this weekend's weather forecast is indicating sunny weather, low to medium waves, no rain, and fresh breezes from the west. We still have some huts and some glamping tents available, and we're open during weekdays too. With WiFi, 24 hr clean energy from the sun, and inspiring views - it's an amazing place to work.
We have a lot of availability this month, so get in touch for special deals when you're ready to escape the metropolis 😉 Our team is looking forward to your visit 😊🥰
The weather this time of year can be a little intense, but it is always beautiful. Families booked in for NYE have re-scheduled due to some rough weather forecasts, and we have some last minute availability from the 30th (tomorrow) to the 1st. Sunrise, Lamun, and Driftwood are all open for the last two nights of 2016, and we still have a couple camping / glamping options too.
Usually we have a minimum of three per hut, but with these last minute changes we are flexible.
The forecasts do include higher than average waves, invigorating winds, and some rains so if you’re up for a last minute adventure and are looking for a transition to 2023 immersed in nature and regeneration, get in touch and secure your spot.
Wishing you and your loved ones happy holidays and a joyous transition to 2023 😌✨🥰

Over the last few weeks, Desa Laguna received several major upgrades ✊🏽 This is our new bamboo lounge and sundeck, and we love it 🥰 Built with 99.7% natural and biodegradable materials (except some nails and bolts), this lounge is our new clubhouse and restaurant and reflects our commitment to sustainable building and bamboo as one of the world’s most sustainable building materials.
It’s the perfect place for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, snoozing on one of our couches (or reading), admiring the gorgeous mangrove forests, watching sunsets, admiring the nocturnal sea life with our underwater night lights at the edge of the deck, and when the time is right, watching movies on our ‘layar tancap.’
You might also notice some solar panels - we’ll save that for another post, but as an appetizer, Desa Laguna is now 100% powered on solar with one of the world’s most advanced and efficient energy systems 🌤🔋🏝
So what are you waiting for? For groups of six or more for the remainder of November, we are offering free upgrades. Pay for camping (Rp. 1.8 juta) and get a glamping tent. Pay for glamping (Rp. 2.17) and get one of our (now 3) gorgeous seaside huts.
Want to negotiate a different deal? We’re always flexible - just drop us a message via whatsapp or give us a call. Feeling spontaneous and got nothing to do this weekend? A couple of our huts, glamping tents, and camping tents are still available.
Come discover (or revisit your now upgraded) home away from home ❤️
Lemon grass only at secret paradise
Let us let you in on a little secret. Our guests are amazing. We are lucky to attract some of the most awesome people that exist :)
Another secret? The best way to experience Desa Laguna is via a charter boat and a group of about 10-24 people (for now). A direct speedboat transfer takes about 74 minutes from the Ancol Marina, and you can choose when to depart, and when to come home (latest departure from the island we recommend is about 3:30 pm, if weather is good).
Final secret for tonight? If you can get a group together between now and tomorrow (Friday) afternoon, we can get that charter boat. The group size must be at least 6-8 people.
This weekend we have room for 4 in our Sunrise Hut, and we can set up our large ‘lux’ / ‘glamping’ tents for 1 or two couples.
To sweeten the deal, we’ll throw in two bottles of our social enterprise wine, and give the group our community / regular guest rates, which are Rp. 2.35 million per adult for the Sunrise Hut, and Rp. 1.87 million per adult for the glamping tents.
Coming with kids? At Desa Laguna (unlike other resorts in Pulau Seribu) we define kids as 18 and under (toddlers 2 and under are free), and the rates are only Rp. 1.81 million for the Sunrise Hut and Rp. 1.47 for the glamping tents.
Wanna get a bigger group together? Aim for 12-14. You can spend this weekend on a gorgeous, regenerative tiny island resort with a wonderful group of people.
Reach out to Andini (+628129402277) or Agnes (+6281284561237) and we’ll get you set up for an amazing weekend.
Our team and our guests have been testing our glamping tents since our team first landed on the island in October 2021.
The nights at Desa Laguna are almost always cool. There’s almost always a breeze. All our glamping tents come with ventilation flaps on the sides to maximize airflow. In case you still need it, every guest gets an electric fan whose battery lasts through the night (if you put it on the right setting).
Each glamping tent is equipped with comfortable mattresses, sheets, pillows, a guling, interior lighting, and customized furniture for storing your things.
Our larger glamping tents are both on wooden decks. All glamping tents come with private outdoor seating and exterior lights / candles, and fully rain proof.
When’s the last time you immersed yourself in nature? Ayolahhh, Desa Laguna and the beauty of Taman Nasional Kepulauan Seribu awaits
‘Nature has been for me, for as long as I remember, a source of solace, inspiration, adventure, and delight; a home, a teacher, a companion.’
- Lorraine Anderson is an author and teacher whose work focuses on encouraging way of life in tune with nature.
At Desa Laguna, we’re always amazed by the amazing guests that arrive on our shores. Our Sunrise Hut was recently home to a prestigious French architect and interior designer and his lovely wife, who stayed with us for four nights.

“Your little island is incredibly heavenly. Thank you for these privileged moments. The reception is wonderful.
Very sincerely we love this place. Another world.
Desa Laguna gave us great moments of dreams and serenity. Everything is done there so that the nature of this island is respected and the welcome is truly wonderful. We lived a dream between sky, sand and turquoise sea as far as the eye could see.”

Our first driftwood lounge and island ‘living room’ is on our east beach, with easy access to swimming lagoons. This lounge has 270 degree views of the Java Sea and our beautiful lagoons, and is surrounded by sandy white beaches and lots of places to relax and enjoy the breeze.
Complete with it’s own solar energy system, this is also our early re-charge station where you can power up phones and laptops, and turn on our bluetooth speakers to listen to our custom island vibe playlists.
Here you’ll also find our complimentary beverage station where at any time of day you can make yourself a quality cup of coffee, a spicy hot ginger tea, or cool down with a refreshingly cool lemongrass & lemon infused water.
At night we like to set up dinners on the beach, and upon request, we can light up a small bonfire under the stars ✨
During April and May we have special discounted rates for friends and those of you working in environmental and humanitarian fields. If you stayed at our first island at Pulau Macan for several nights, you also qualify for early access. Get in touch with us for our e-brochure and price list 🙏🏽

Our Vision
Our focus is to embody some of the solutions to the many challenges our world faces within the microcosm of our tiny island and surrounding atoll. Our vision is to build a ‘paradise amongst tropical waters,’ recognizing that the journey to get there starts with healing, cleansing, and repairing damage done. Before we can sustain, we must repair. Before we can thrive, we must heal. Our vision therefore starts with an invitation to regenerate and restore the health of our environments and ourselves, and then to grow towards an authentic example of good and evolved living.
Beyond our island and our atoll, our vision is to collaborate with leaders to establish Pulau Seribu as a well-loved and well-known region grounded in regeneration and sustainability. We see the possibility to inspire many with the kind of future that is possible when there is effective collaboration among enterprise, government, and civil society that is led by the aspirations of our human family, grounded in a deep love and respect for nature.
The Experience
Coming to Desa Laguna is a recharge of your spiritual, emotional, and physical batteries. For most of us, the last two years have been hard. Let us nourish you and your senses with a reconnection to nature, delicious and healthful food and beverages, and activities that help you restore the cleanliness and health of our tropical marine ecosystem. Our aim is that you arrive back home nourished, recharged, refreshed, and ready to level up your commitment to the good life.
Regenerative tourism and travel is the future. It is about making a net positive impact, and enjoying the process. It is about meeting like minded folks, and touching base with kindred spirits. It is about building an alliance for the future that our hearts know is possible.
The feeling that results from an authentic commitment to an inspired vision cannot easily be described - it must be felt. This was felt by so many friends and visitors at Pulau Macan, and why it became so well loved. This same authentic dedication is the foundation for Desa Laguna, and you will feel it once you arrive.
How to visit
Desa Laguna is a special place, and the home of a special mission. Access in the early stages is limited to Pulau Macan Ambassadors and Citizens, and to qualifying organizations and individuals who are aligned with our vision.
If you are an Ambassador (you have stayed at Pulau Macan for 7 nights or more), or an organization or individual that is highly aligned with our vision and mission, you are welcome to come visit us starting April 15. If you are a Citizen of Pulau Macan (you have stayed for 3 nights or more) or if you share our vision and would like to come during pre-opening and enjoy discounted prices, you are welcome to book your stay starting in May. During this pre-opening phase, we will mainly be open during weekends, and continue building during the week.
We will open to the public in June. More information will be available soon. We are so looking forward to welcoming you and building this paradise together.

#2022
Goodbye Pulau Macan, Hello Desa Laguna
Before we introduce our new island home, we’d like to say goodbye to our deeply loved pilot project, Pulau Macan Eco Village & Resort.
From the beginning, Pulau Macan was envisioned as a classroom for life. A place to get back to the basics, to learn how to build in harmony with nature, how to use energy efficiently, how to nourish ourselves with delicious and healthy foods and beverages, how to create a social enterprise where the team is family, and how to inspire our guests via the intimate connection with the unparalleled natural beauty and diversity of the tropical marine ecosystem. This authentic connection with nature, our diverse human family and the Divine we hoped would inspire an evolved way to live. Our sincere wish was to create an inspiring version of what life could be like, right on the doorstep of the megalopolis that is Jakarta.
As we say goodbye, we are deeply grateful - to you, Pulau Macan and your many spiritual guardians, for helping to inspire so many visitors to reconnect with nature, with the Divine, and with ourselves. We thank you, our amazing, innovative, humble and fun-loving team, many of whom have joined and will be joining us at our new island. And thank you all, our beloved visitors and guests, and especially to those of you who returned and called Pulau Macan a home away from home. It would not have been possible without the support of so many friends, especially our dear ‘citizens and ambassadors.’
Among so many, one person in particular deserves a special mention, and many of you who came to Pulau Macan from 2007 to 2020 will remember her warmth. From her oatmeal raisin cookies to her breakfast crepes, to her nasi kuning and tempe kering and many delicious soups, to her pure love for the team and our guests, Bu Pai was a key founder and force behind the Pulau Macan team. Bu Pai left for her next adventure late in 2021 but will forever be remembered and honored as a co-founder. Thank you Bu Pai, for contributing so much to the success of Pulau Macan. We love and miss you.
Our quest now continues on a new island, nearby, and surrounded by gorgeous lagoons and reefs. Come visit us 🥰
