How has RWI’s Regional Asia Pacific Programme’s (RAPP) been a beacon for positive change in the Asia-Pacific region? From bolstering knowledge and capacity to fostering collaborations and shaping policy development, the RAPP has been a highly-relevant and timely intervention for advancing human rights, gender equality, and environmental sustainability.
RWI’s impact report delves into the programme’s success in its intended outcomes, which includes driving knowledge sharing and exchange; empowering local stakeholders to localise the SDGs and address pressing environmental and human rights challenges; and sparking critical public discourse on human rights, gender equality, and the environment.

The Raoul Wallenberg Institute of human rights and humanitarian law's (RWI) Regional Asia Pacific Programme (RAPP) has organised a closing event called ‘Synergies for Sustainable Change: Connecting Human Rights, Gender Equality, and Environmental Protection in Asia and the Pacific’ in Jakarta, highlighting the RWI RAPO end of the programme that has been ongoing since 2017 to 2024.
The hybrid event showcased RWI RAPP work results from 2017 to 2024 and invited some RWI working partners in the region, both online and offline, including the Directorate General of the Human Rights Ministry of Law and the Human Rights Republic of Indonesia.
RWI Executive Director Peter Lundberg gave his recorded opening remarks, followed by Dr. Dhahana Putra, Bc.IP., S.H., M.Si., Director General of Human Rights, Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Republic of Indonesia, and Dr. Jason Squire, Director, RWI Regional Asia Pacific Office. On that occasion, representatives from the Swedish Embassy in Jakarta also attended the event.

Program Regional Asia Pasifik (RAPO) dari Raoul Wallenberg Institute for Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (RWI) telah menyelenggarakan acara penutupan yang bertajuk 'Sinergi untuk Perubahan yang Berkelanjutan: Menghubungkan Hak Asasi Manusia, Kesetaraan Gender, dan Perlindungan Lingkungan di Asia dan Pasifik' di Jakarta, yang menandai berakhirnya program RWI RAPO yang telah berlangsung sejak tahun 2017 hingga 2024.
Acara yang dikemas dalam bentuk hybrid ini menampilkan hasil kerja RWI RAPP dari tahun 2017 hingga 2024 dan mengundang beberapa mitra kerja RWI di kawasan Asia Pasifik, baik secara daring maupun luring, termasuk Direktorat Jenderal Hak Asasi Manusia (HAM) Kementerian Hukum dan Hak Asasi Manusia (Kemenkumham) RI.
Direktur Eksekutif RWI Peter Lundberg memberikan sambutan yang direkam, diikuti oleh Dr. Dhahana Putra, Bc.IP, S.H., M.Si., Direktur Jenderal Hak Asasi Manusia Kementerian Hukum dan Hak Asasi Manusia Republik Indonesia, dan Dr. Jason Squire, Direktur RWI Regional Asia Pasifik. Dalam kesempatan tersebut, perwakilan dari Kedutaan Besar Swedia di Jakarta juga turut hadir dalam acara tersebut.
Windi Arini, Programme Officer RWI Regional Asia Pacific, contributed to the publication and emphasized that human rights action plans serve as valuable frameworks for cities and municipalities to advance human rights at the local level. By providing a roadmap for aligning policies with human rights principles and establishing mechanisms for monitoring and evaluation, action plans facilitate ongoing progress assessment and improvement identification. However, challenges such as legal and institutional barriers, resource constraints, and fluctuating political support can hinder effective implementation. For more info click link in bio
RWI bersama Direktorat Jenderal Hak Asasi Manusia Kementrian Hukum dan Ham Republik Indonesia, Kementrian Kelautan dan Perikanan Republik Indonesia dan Ditjen Pengelolaan Kelautan dan Ruang Laut meluncurkan laporan bertajuk "Masyarakat Adat Pesisir dan Perubahan Iklim: Perspektif Hak Asasi Manusia" di Jakarta.
Masyarakan pesisir di Indonesia mewakili kelompok rentan yang memerlukan perhatian khusus. Kehadiran mereka yang mana tidak sepenuhnya terdokumentasi dalam statistik pemerintah beserta tingginya tingkat kemiskinan relatif mereka, telah melipatgandakan kerentanan masyarakat pesisir dalam menghadapi serangan perubahan iklim.
Berikut adalah rekomendasi guna memperkuat perlindungan dan pemenuhan hak masyarakat adat pesisir dalam konteks perubahan iklim.
RWI together with the Directorate General of Human Rights of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries of the Republic of Indonesia and the Directorate General of Marine Management and Marine Spaces launched a report entitled "Coastal Indigenous Peoples and Climate Change: A Human Rights Perspective" in Jakarta.
Coastal communities in Indonesia represent a vulnerable group that requires special attention. Their presence, which is not fully documented in government statistics, along with their high levels of relative poverty, has multiplied the vulnerability of coastal communities in the face of the onset of climate change.
The following are recommendations to strengthen the protection and fulfillment of the rights of indigenous coastal communities in the context of climate change.

RWI bersama Direktorat Jenderal HAM menyelenggarakan Focus Group Discussion terkait penyusunan " Gambaran Peta Kerja Direktorat Jenderal Hak Asasi Manusia terhadap Agenda Perubahan Iklim"
Dalam sambutannya Direktur Jenderal HAM Kemenkumham RI Dr Dhahana Putra, Bc.IP., S.H., M.Si., mengatakan bahwa dalam pengembangan peta jalan ini hak asasi manusia menjadi fokus utama dan yang terkait isu kesejahteraan manusia itu sangat penting untuk dimasukan dalam regulasi perubahan iklim.
RWI together with the Directorate General of Human Rights held a Focus Group Discussion related to the preparation of the "Overview of the Directorate General of Human Rights Work Map on the Climate Change Agenda".
In his remarks, the Director General of Human Rights of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia, Dr. Dhahana Putra, Bc.IP., S.H., M.Si., said that in the development of this road map, human rights are the main focus and that issues related to human welfare are very important to be included in climate change regulations.

Transisi energi ke arah yang lebih berkelanjutan bukanlah tugas mudah. Namun, dengan pendekatan berbasis HAM, kita dapat memastikan bahwa proses ini adil dan inklusif bagi semua pihak, terutama masyarakat rentan.
Hari ini, Direktorat Jenderal HAM dan RWI dengan bangga meluncurkan Kertas Kebijakan tentang "Pentingnya Pendekatan Berbasis HAM dalam Transisi Energi yang Berkeadilan di Indonesia". Bersama-sama, kita dapat mempromosikan kebijakan energi yang lebih adil, memperkuat peran pemerintah dan non-pemerintah, serta mendorong integrasi HAM dalam regulasi dan proyek transisi energi di Indonesia.
The Importance of a Human Rights Approach in Indonesia's Energy Transition: Policy Paper Launch 🌱🌏
Transitioning energy to a more sustainable direction is no easy task. However, with a human rights-based approach, we can ensure that this process is fair and inclusive for all parties, especially vulnerable communities.
Today, the Directorate General of Human Rights and RWI are pleased to launch a Policy Paper on "The Importance of a Human Rights-Based Approach in Indonesia's Equitable Energy Transition". Together, we can promote more equitable energy policies, strengthen the role of government and non-government, and encourage the integration of human rights in energy transition regulations and projects in Indonesia.
