Some of us may have heard about the news that the Komodo National Park will be closed in 2020 by the Government. At this time we want to share information that the Indonesian government has finally published a formal press-release, stating that the National Park will remain open.
Rumors about the closure of the Komodo National Park began last year after several dragons were smuggled out of the island and sold on the international black market.
The sensationalism of the news by both local and international news outlets have been contributing to the development of a false narrative that the Komodo dragon population is decreasing due to the high number of tourists coming to the island. This isn’t true because the existence of tourists doesn't have an impact on reducing the population, and instead, the dragon population has been reported to fluctuate in a stable trend for over the past five years.
The Komodo closure proposal has been officially rejected by the Government, and President Joko Widodo is currently planning to make Labuan Bajo as a premium class tourist destination in 2020, and the plan will begin firstly with infrastructure advancements.

The rainy season or West Monsoon Season is finally starting. This weather cycle is always happens and covers mostly around the Southeast Asia region, particularly in Indonesia. The highest peak of rainfall and wind starts from mid-January to February, and will slowly weaken in March. This is a normal weather cycle that always happens every year.

During this wet season, we always stopped sailing and decided to dry-dock on the island of Sulawesi. We use this as an opportunity to carry out routine maintenance of our boat, so that the boat is seaworthy every year and always meet the required safety standards.

Many people, including local rangers on Komodo islands believe that the Komodo Dragon’s deadly bite is because it contains highly toxic bacteria that cause horrible infection
​But the latest findings based on research conducted by the University of Australia’s Research Team led by Bryan Fry, said different things. He able to prove that a bite full of bacteria is a myth. He discovered that there were poison glands found in the jaws of Komodo dragon’s lower teeth which caused blood to become thick and kill the victims
​This finding was then confirmed by a team from the Singapore Zoo that performed surgery on the glands found in Komodo dragons at that time. Genetic and chemical analysis shows that there are venomous substances, including chemical substances that cause blood coagulation which could cause extreme low blood pressure, potentially inducing shock, if injected into a mammal.
