Horizon Glassworks is comprised of Hot Glass Artist Ron Seivertson, his personally trained team of hot shop assistants, cold working staff, administration, sales and support staff. Making hot glass art in a
large scale and complex assembly requires an enormous amount of precise team work. Each individual plays a key role in achieving success of the work. The team must act quickly at times with accurate response and communication. The staff at Horizon is and must be as equally dedicated to the success of the work as the artist, as attention focus and a positive attitude are required from everyone on the shop floor. Many on staff are related and in a sense we are sort of a large family and work together diligently for the common goal of making great art in hot glass. From 2005 Ron Seivertson and his team took to hot glass working at an astounding pace with intensity that few posses. He is a highly expressive artist of fiery passion and has been making a significant impression on the art world at large, and his work has been collected around the world. The Team

"Hot glass artist Ron Seivertson creates light filled forms of blown and sculpted hot glass, extra ordinary in their expression and textural luminosity” Trisha Sertori, Jakarta Post
“He is clearly on the leading edge of glass blowing. His tonally rich and diverse blown art, conjures great thinking with simple pleasing forms. He investigates the far reaches of what blown glass should be and yet delivers stunningly beautiful, luminous and entertaining art.” Carolyn M. Scott, Executive Director

Ron Seivertson
Ron Seivertson [1961, Sacramento, California USA] is a hot glass artist who lives on the edge with an intense devotion to his craft. He regularly creates masterpieces from the point of view that everything is possible and to do what seems can not be done. Before realizing he was destined for something else Ron spent more then 20 years in construction. He awoke the artist in him with painting and sculpturing long before finding ‘off hand’ hot glass as his ultimate medium in 2003. From that moment Ron took to glassblowing and sculpting quickly and naturally. Ron has studied intensely in Seattle, Washington USA and Melbourne, Australia. He has attained his most masterful lessons at The Pilchuck Glass School. Being a glassblower is based in his DNA, so to speak, as he found out during his first years that his great grandfather was a glassblower from Norway and that persons with his surname have been working with Hot Glass in northern Europe for more than 200 years. The Alchemy and fluidity of the Hot Glass process are the big drive and given the rigors of this art form, allowing magic and passion’s tenacity. Ron’s Horizon Glassworks Studio in Ubud, Bali is his arena of pursuing the creation of master pieces and the unprecedented. Ron Seivertson is now known and steadily emerging more and more, all over the world. He has a strong reputation and widely regarded for producing stunning glass art works that are unique in their style and form. Artist statement
“Many artists have a moment of powerful influence from the works of others that compel them to go a certain direction with their work or move into a style or medium. For me it was the work of Gustav Vigeland when I visited his museum in Oslo Norway, his ability to capture human expression simply knocked me out. Hot Glass fits my personality, my need for quick gratification and a sense of conquest. It challenges me to explore possibilities regardless of the subject at hand. The results are immediate. Hot Glass is my competitor in many variations to exhaust my creative ambitions for the remainder of my life. Not all sculptors get the chance to work with Glass and for me it is humbling and a great privilege. Most of my early sculptural works are about the human expression and experience, how we relate to our surroundings and others. For the last 9 years I have been living and working on Bali, the island of the Gods. It has influenced my work directly, especially the energy of highly qualified artists surrounding me. I have been experiencing a great freedom to manifest my dreams in a culture and environment that compels me every day. It opens up my power to create more and more of my personal desires and inspirations. The conceptual idea of my work- although very important- is often secondary to my desire of challenge to create unique works. I enjoy pushing boundaries to see what is possible in the moment with hot glass in my hands. Lately I have been working collaboratively and individually with prehistoric themes representing animals, artifacts and “Early Man” specifically as found objects, bones and skulls. The subject encourages me to think of human life in the early days of humanity and is
challenging me to transform their life, their emotions, drama of survival, their handicrafts, spiritual beliefs and rituals into new expressions with Glass Art Objects. The Alchemy of Glass keeps surprising me and this alchemic process is encouraging me daily to see what there is yet to discover.”

Hot Glass "Studio Glass"
At Horizon Glassworks the European traditional method known as “off hand” or “hand blown” are used to create the work. The work is formed by the principle glass artist –known as the “Gaffer”- at a work bench while the glass is hot and moving. Both blown and sculpted works are shaped by hand with various tools, momentum and gravity. Ron is assisted at the bench by his team of personally trained workers. Timing and accuracy, sensitivity and anticipation are essential in all aspects of the process and the gaffer orchestrates all the activities. Sculptures and blown forms are either assembled with hot components or shaped from gathers of molten glass. The Process
In our shop we have a pot furnace filled with molten glass that runs 24 hours a day at 2000 degrees Fahrenheit. To start we dip and turn iron blow pipes into the furnace crucible to gather the glass. Successive gathers are taken until we have the desired size for the work. The piece is re-heated as required in a blast furnace known as a “glory hole” until the work is completed. Control of temperature in the piece is very important. The hot glass is manipulated and expanded using hand tools and blowing techniques by the “gaffer”. The team assists with the pipe handling, bringing hot components, taking reheats and protecting the gaffer from the heat of the glass. Once the piece is to the desired shape and size on one end it is then transferred to a punty iron using a break off method. Thus the piece is turned around so the opposite end of the piece can be finished. The piece is then tapped off the punty and placed into and annealing oven to cool slowly at a rate calculated according to the thickness of the piece. Hot Sculpted Works are made in very much the same way as described above. Instead of blowing the piece into the desired form Hot Sculpted Glass requires manipulation of the Hot Glass with various tools shaped, from a molten mass. We use clear glass as the base medium which begins as silica “studio batch” powder imported from Australia. Color is added during the gathering process in a variety of techniques. Our colors are specific chemistry made to “fit” studio glass and imported from Germany, the USA and New Zealand.

Art Installations
Glass Art can enliven environments as no other art media can. Weather it is a fountain in your garden, a chandelier in your foyer, a stand alone sculpture or a wall ensemble, the impact, enlivening and value enhancing effects of glass art are undeniable. Ron and his team are artists with structural know how in many mediums and materials. From his background as building contractor – Ron Seivertson has gained experience regarding how to create and assemble with structural integrity, and has years of experience working with Architects and Engineers. Glass is a stabile, long-lasting medium that-even in the humidity of the tropics, or brutal dryness of the dessert- is not subject to the same deterioration of so many other art mediums and for hundreds if not thousands of years holds it’s beauty and value. Outdoor works subject to acid rain or hard water can be Nano coated. These coatings are known to protect most surfaces from the effects of harsh water environments.
