ARIE SMIT PAVILION - Adrianus Wilhelmus, more widely known as Arie Smit, is an influential maestro painter from Zaandam, Netherlands. He influenced the development of painting in Bali as he taught village children of Penestanan to hone their artistic talent. This resulted in the โ€œYoung Artistโ€ Genre to be born. Smitโ€™s use of vibrant colors on his paintings is a result of his captivation to โ€˜riotous lightโ€™ of the Balinese environment. Theme of his paintings revolves around nature and Balinese culture such as villages, rice terraces, palm trees, and temples as displayed on the Arie Smit Pavilion at Neka Art Museum ( NAM ). Arie Smit spent the majority of his time in Bali working on his artwork in his Sanggingan studio as he would do sketching outdoors. On March 23, 2016, the late maestro passed away at his cherished studio. The House of Arie Smit (@houseofariesmit) is the current name of this studio. The House of Arie Smit was founded by PM. Kardi Suteja and PA. Laksmi Ardaneswari with the intention of immortalizing the studio as a memorial to Arie Smit and carrying on his purpose of encouraging childrenโ€™s artistic abilities. Learn more about Arie Smit and his painting by visiting @nekaartmuseum and @houseofariesmit. #NAM #NAMubud #NAMpavilion #NekaArtMuseum #nekaartmuseumubudbali #ariesmit #ariesmitpavilion #houseofariesmit #museumbali #musiumbali

Affandiโ€™s paintings on display are quite complete in capturing the life of the Balinese people from the sea to the mountains (segara-gunung). Starting from the paintings of the beach with the fishermen and their boats, the life of the village community under the banyan tree, cockfighting activities, the atmosphere of the Galungan holiday, the barong dance to the beautiful views of Mount Batur and Lake Batur. Visit NAM to explore more about Affandi and his art style, and how he became one of Indonesiaโ€™s most prominent painting maestro! #NAM #NekaArtMuseum #NAMubudbali #NekaArtMuseumUbudBali #MuseumBali #BaliMuseum #Musium #exploreNAM #exploreNekaArtMuseum #Affandi #affandikoesoema #AffandiPavilion #NAMAffandiPavilion

HAPPY SILENT DAY March 22, 2023 Nyepi is a holiday for Hindus which is celebrated every Saka New Year. Nyepi comes from the word quiet or silent. Nyepi Day is actually a Hindu New Year celebration based on the ล›aka calendar, which began in 78 AD. Unlike the Christian New Year celebrations, the ล›aka New Year in Bali begins with solitude. No activity as usual. Catur Brata Penyepian, or the 4 fundamental prohibitions of Amati Geni (no fire, no light, and no electricity), Amati Karya (no work), Amati Lelanguan (no entertainment), Amati Lelungan (no travelling). This sacred day for Hindus, especially in Bali, is observed by everyone staying on the island as a token of respect. For 24 hours you will see a different side of Bali. This is a good time to meditate and find your inner peace as the vibrant island falls into a completely peaceful and quiet state. The main purpose of Nyepi Day is to pray before God Almighty, to purify Bhuana Alit (human realm/microcosmos) and Bhuana Agung/macrocosmos (universe). #nyepi #silence #bali #hindu #nofire #nowork #noentertainment #notraveling #bodyandsoul #purification #selfawareness #iintrospection #newyear #newlife

Traditional Balinese Wayang (Puppet) Painting of the Kamasan era When the power in the Gelgel Kingdom was held by Dewa Agung Jambe, the center of government was moved to Semarapura Klungkung. At that time the art of wayang painting reached its peak. King Dewa Agung Jambe summoned I Gede Mersandi, a resident of Kamasan village, to paint. Because of the beauty of the work of I Gede Mersandi, the king gave a gift of a plot of land and a place to live and received the title I Gede Modara in 1771 (Kanta, 1978: 35). The work of I Gede Mondara is better known as the Kamasan Style Puppet Painting. Wayang Kamasan painting is engraved on the ceiling of the Kerta Gosa monumental building. Kamasan's paintings consistently carry the theme of wayang stories based on the epics Ramayana, Mahabharata, Tantri and Sutasoma. Broadly speaking, the message of his paintings is thick with moral teachings and the philosophy of the law of karma and reincarnation in Hinduism. This painting style spread throughout Bali (Krambitan Tabanan, Buleleng, Jembrana) and is known as classical Balinese painting. The art of wayang painting that developed in the Tabanan area is known for its Kerambitan style painting, as well as in Jembrana it is famous for its pengider-ider cloth depicting Jembrana style puppets, in Buleleng it is famous for its Nagasepaha style glass painting. #nekaartmuseum #balinese #balinesepainting #wayang #wayangpainting #dewaagungjambe #gelgel #gelgelkingdom #kertagosa #kardisuteja

BALINESE WAYANG STYLE PAINTING Traditional Balinese wayang painting can be divided into 3 periods in general.
