Witnessing the awe-inspiring ritual at the Saka Dewa festival in Leh. Devotees, with unwavering dedication, moved towards the main temple in a profound display of faith and devotion. They fell to their knees, stretched out face down on the street, then stood up and walked a few steps, only to repeat the process again and again until they reached the temple. This act, known as prostration, is a powerful expression of humility and reverence. It’s a physical and spiritual journey, symbolizing the shedding of ego and the path to enlightenment. Each prostration brings them closer to the divine, embodying their deep commitment to seeking enlightenment for themselves and all beings. In Tibetan Buddhism devotees prostrate themselves ideally 100,000 times a year, which means almost 300 times a day, every day of the year. Not only do they prostrate themselves around temples they also do it on roads, streets and sidewalks.
